View Full Version : How do the manual TR\TS V6's go? Does anyone have the road test figures on them?

I was just wondering how well the TR/TS V6 manuals perform, I can only find road tests on the auto V6's which still perform well for a smallish V6, I have seen a manual one been driven hard and it seemed to go quite well actually, due to the 3rd gen success and popularity it seems that the 2nd gen may have been over looked and under rated.

Yeah, I know the manual TE's were quite fast not much slower than the ("But officer, I just bought it, I didn't know my front tyres were on fire") 3.5 litre manuals, but I'd be interested to see the acceleration times of the TR/TS SOHC V6 manuals, I can only find write ups on the Auto's.

Ok. Wheels July 1993 had a road test between V6 Camry and the TR V6. Both were autos but in a side panel they did a seperate test for the V6 manual Magna and the times it did were...
0-100 in 11.2 sec
0-400 in 18.0 sec
I hope this was a help! :D

Well i don't have any dyno figures or quater miles times but pretty much anyone who gets into my magna is suprised at how well it goes and tells me so. And these comments have come from the drivers of gtr's, cefiro's and 180's.
I let one of my friends (who is also my mechanic) drive my car though town a few weeks ago because I was too drunk to drive. He loved it coz i let him thrash it and he said straight out that it goes better than his manual VP. He reakons the only thing wrong is that its not rwd.
Of course it dosn't even touch his only comes out on summer weekends Charger but thats another story.
I am getting the itch for more power though, it just dosn't have the immidiate power surge that my last car had.

thats pretty slow dude, i have a 4cylinder TR and mine hits 10.3 0-100,, all it has is an exhaust,,,, wouldnt the v6's go harder and faster? maybe not take off but overall?

They look more like Auto times, which magazine? I would have expected a manual to be just under 10 secs 0-100 and perhaps 17 secs 0-400m
The manual TE does about 7.6 secs 0-100 and 15.7 secs 0-400
Sorry I should have also said thanks for going to the trouble of looking it up for me:)

nah thats from the drag track im about 104km/h at 660ft in a bit over 10 seconds. I havent timed it otherwise i reckon a manual 4cyl might be able to pull a lowish 17. oh and 2ndly i would be changing to third at about 99 if i was doin 0-100
manual te's do low 15's drivers who have gone to the drags multiple times have gotten down to 15.1-15.4

The times look slow to me too but when Wheels do acceleration tests they do so with half a tank of fuel and 2 people in the car. For reference i also dug up some runs this time from Motor but for the 2.6 injected manual in a TS...
0-100 kmh in 10.79 sec
0-400 metres in 17.53 sec at 128.3 kmh

I have a manual V6 TS, there like a wolf in sheep clothing. Surprised a few friends & Commodores.
But it doesn't take long to get used to almost any car and want more power  - then I remind myself this car will go to the children in 2-4 years time, and the current power source is well fast enough from a Parent's point of view.
Sorry , no official timings from me - only perception & feelings.

I hear you GRDPuck, it does not take long to want more power, I used to own a Suzuki GSX 1100 which was a very fast bike 0-100 4 secs 0-400m 11.4 secs 0-160 7 secs etc, and I can remember wanting more power when overtaking in 3rd gear.
I see what you mean by wolve in sheep's clothing, a 2nd gen TR\TS gives my VX Commodore a surprise up the big 100 kph hill on the way home, I think it's actually a Verada with a manual gearbox, and a girl in a 1993 nissan Maxima also surprises me, but she's a lead foot idiot and does not observe the 100 kph limit, I, just like you have kids and tend to observe safety and the law, my 12 year old son already thinks that anything which does not have 'Holden' written on it is crap but what else can you expect from a 12 year old? It's only if the attitude does not change later I'll start worrying.:doubt:
V6 manuals pull harder than a 14 year old.
Especially in TRGP's!
