View Full Version : 2.6 lt to a 3.0 ltr?

I have searched the threads but can't find any infos on a 3 litre conversion. I have heard that the new zealand version tp came out with the 3 litre? is this true?
The timing chain rattle on the 2.6 is driving me nuts. This has been repaired 2 times over the last 5 years, but soon rattles consistently after the repair.
I intend to use this car for work and to do windsurfing sorties to lancelin and down south.
The 3 ltr would give me a little bit extra grunt for maintaining high cruising speeds.
As the automatic box is in serious need of an over haul i came to the conclusion that it would be cheaper for me to drop out the drive train and replace it, rather than buy another car. Also i have read that another DOHC head may fit the 2.6 but i would like to dispense with the chain drive for a belt drive. Also with this option i could turbo charge it.
Obviously the ecu maps would need changing which brings me to q3: does the ecu have an eprom that can be replaced or modded in situ?
Any input and experience would be greatly apreciated.

yes, overseas had a 3l v6 - not sure about how easy it is to fit.
some mob overseas is making a dohc head for the 2.6 - dunno if it would benefit from our fuel quality here.
as for the chain rattleing... there is two chains... the chain that usually rattles is the balance shaft chain... cheaper alternative is to adjust it from the little cover on your timing cover, or remove the balance shafts. i'm doing soon, and my chain dont even rattle. $30 + motor not having extra weight to move around... cant go wrong.

eye, iv'e tinkered with that. Adjusted to the manufacturers specs, but still the rattle at start up. When oil is cold you don't notice the rattle so much. But when she gets hot 4 you, you can hear her coming down the street. I have noticed this on quite a few cars, even the tr.
And the tr has a special cam to stop the hydraulic adjuster going back. Would help the rattling when starting it hot and cold though.
The 3 ltr conversion would be a relatively cheaper option than the head conversion as most of the parts from the tr would fit, no?

DOHC would be pretty sweet.

Yes i agree it would be very sweet. But it would put that in me 85 cordia turbo if it fits off course.
But 3ltrs out of a tr or better would suffice until i get the cordia on the road.

I have been looking into a 3 Litre V6 conversion for E2 (White Elante).
It seems that the engine mounts need to be changed (maybe source from NZ) and wiring.
In NSW the car can be regod without an engineer's certificate according to the RTA.

There's a suggestion of a quad cam 4 the tp, there's some serious issues wiv traction...but apart from that... and at the right price, she could be a real sleeper... he he he.

TP 3.0L TT DOHC conversion .
That thing would have so many issues with traction lol. Would be the ultimate sleeper though.
