ha ha, i take it your charge light is on? sorry i cant help. just being a dick :D
the regulator is on the back of the alternator, its a small black box into which the black cable plugs into. The regulator controls how much voltage runs to the battery, if u are getting the charge light on, it means its underchargin, but it could also be over-charging which could cause harmful damage to your electrics.
I had the same problem, and a new regulator costs $70-$80.
i went to a Magna wreckers and bought a 2nd Hand Alternator (with a regulator) for $45, as i found out if the regulator is gone usually other stuff like your brushes need replacing too.
If u dont want second hand, a new alternator costs $170, dont get reconditioned they rip u off, i got quoted $180 for a reconditioned one...
Your best bet would be to find a 2nd hand alternator from the wreckers, and installing it yourself, its not that hard at all......
But it could also be other things, your battery may be on its way out, or has low water levels. To check the water levels just undo the little caps and make sure the water is above the metal plates, if not use demineralised or boiled (then cooled) water.

GET this checked out asap and check the fluid in your battery. aparently its a common problem in TRs to overcharge which casuses the battery to dry out then surge/overpower your car.
this happened to me in my old tr which eventually killed the ECU , so in the end ECU/ALT/BAT + labour can be a lot. CHECK THOSE FLUIDS ASAP and get a volt/amp tester if you have a multi meter.

it maybe the alt is ****ed cause my scorpion keepeted on blowing them up it is when they are bolted to the block if u over tighten them it pulls them apart some shit like that any way the auto sparky told me

thanks for the info, so you're saying it's better to get the whole altenator rather than get the volt regulator only? is the regulator included if i get a new unit?

Yeah the regulator is included......if u can source a second hand working alternator from a wreckers then get that..
if not depending on your cash flow, either just get the regulator replaced, or get a new alternator.
With Overcharge, u cant tell when it is doing it, as the charge light only comes on whilst under-charging, so for all u know its overcharging just as often as undercharging, as the regulator isnt doing its job.
