I am replacing the CV joints in my TS V6 wagon. I have done the drivers side OK.
I am having trouble on the passengers side removing the axle. I have the lower control arm off, the disc and wheel hub as well. I have undone the intermediate shaft bearing support from the rear of block. I can and have pulled the splined axle out of the auto trans. but cannot get it out far enough to drop it down.
The bearing support hits on the alternator and I just cannot gain enough clearance to manipulate the axle and bearing support out of the car. Is there something I am missing or do I need to disassemle half the engine to get it out. It looks to me as though the alternator, power steering pump and rear exhaust manifold will need to come out to give me enough room.
The manual mentions nothing about this when doing the task. Hope someone can give me some advice urgently.

Magna Buff I was not able to separate the two axles at the intermediate axle bearing without bending the bearing protectors.
But I was able to get both axles out at once by removing the bottom sub frame member (only 6 bolts), (5mins.). Then I pulled the axle out of the auto trans and lowered it down with some jiggling to the garage floor.
On another issue I had to replace the ball joint in the lower control arm. So BE WARNED, the sedan and station wagon use different lower control arms and hence different ball joints. The sedan ball joint will not fit the wagon control arm and vice versa. If anyone is interested I have the part numbers from AutoOne and the respective measurements.

Smooth2. It is a TS V6 Magna. Make sure you get your parts man to check if there are 2 parts in the parts book. Make sure you tell him if yours is a sedan or wagon. The part numbers from AutoOne in Sydney are sedan BJ285 and Wagon BJ 294. The difference in sizes are as follows, measured across where the ball joint presses into the control arm. Wagon = 42.78mm.
Sedan = 40.11mm.

OK Thanks Magna Buff. Fuel economy is not flash. 190,000 km on the motor. Dont know color of tranny oil (I still have axles and lower control arm off car so can't check fluid till it is all back together). The box drives beautifully apart from the thump. Do not know service history. I have had the vehicle for about 2 years and have not had a service on it. Just checked fluid level, etc. I have purchased some Mitsu tranny oil and plan to do a fluid change when vehicle is back together. When I drain the fluid via the sump plug on tranny is there any way to remove other fluid in transmission, eg torque converter (my Ford had a drain plug on the converter). I have a feeling that the fluid in the tranny is not Mitsu and would like to remove as much of the old fluid as possible before filling it with new stuff.

not 100% sure on the ts but im sure it similar tp my auto. when i changed mine i followed the manual and it said to let it warm up too temp by driving around the block to use all gears then pull it up to ur drive way and put her on stands, then dissconnect transaxle oilcooler lines from the rear fitting on the tranny and place the end in a drain tin. then put the car in neutral then start the engine, now let it run for no more than 2 mintues, the fuild should drain out the dissconnected line into the tin. now put another drain tin under the oil of the tranny and remove the drain plugs (2). once drained take off the oil pan and replace the oil filter and o-ring then inspect the oil pan for metal particals and clean it aswell as the magnets in the bottom of the pan. install a new gasket and tighten the tranny bolts 1 or 2 turns past hand tight no more than that or the gasket will get too squashed and maybe leak also u might snap a bolt off if ur not careful. I know this cos i did it , snapped the bolt off and left half inside. now to make it easy take a 1 mtre or so lenght of 2cm clear tube(from bunnings) and push one end on the funnel and the other end into the dipstick hole.
now fill it up with about 5-1/2 litres then connect the oil lines and start the car. u can only tell what the level is correctly when the tranny fluids warm. now check the level and put the rest in so there 6.1 lts in there. now the amount of fluid i stated is for a tp so make sure u put the correct amout for ur ts. im not 100% on how much urs take cos ive never worked on one yet.good luck:D

I removed my axle from my TS magna wagon a few weeks ago.
Christ what a bloody nightmare job
I was on it for a few days......
I got it out by removing bolts on alternator and the heat sheild around the rear exhaust manifold.
Im impressed with the dropping the subframe.....might have been quicker
Good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
