MAGNET

Hey I need some direction here. Does anyone actually know anything about about doing an engine conversion for a magna.
As most of you know by now I have a 96 TE 5 speed manual with a ****load of k's on it and am looking to put something else in it. At the moment I cant really find anyone who knows dick about it so any help would be great. I talked to rocco from roccos performance and he suggested a 3.0L GT engine but wasnt really shure. He said the went harder than the 3.5L in the Aus version.

So my options at the moment are:
Another 3.0L
A 3.5L out of a newer model (But noone knows of the implications of this option)
Finding a Diamante Half cut (I dont know much about these ie. benifits/limitations)
or a 3000GT (whatever the **** that is?)

Please help I know that some of you guys out there have played with some of these ideas so any info would be of much help. Even if its just putting me in contact with the right people.

Good luck with the engine hunt. I am making evil plans for my old gen 1 that sort of coincide with these thoughts.

i read somewhere mitsu used the petrol version of the pajero engine in an AWD turbo MANUAL magna ... obviously that gonna cost major cash though...

my honest oppinion, if u gonna spend money to put a good engine in the car just buy a different car! the magnas are very limited as to what u can put into it ... and the ones that u can put in are quite rare and pricey...

hmmm imagine if a 2j or rb26 dropped straight in hahah....at the fronts wheels :S ...

For the TE model, and having a 3.0 factory engine, I honestly recomedn either the 3.5 if you want the easiest option (Then either get a piggy back or a TE 3.5 ECU factory) or for the better option get the 3.0 DOHC Mivec engine.

Still a very easy direct bolt in, just requires a new Haltech ECU to run it. That is definitly more suitable for the 3.0 upgrade as no relicencing involved as it is still classed as a 3.0 and no requirements for emmision control testing etc.

If you were to get a front cut and were happy to use the 5 speed tiptronic that comes with the engine then the MIVEC wouldn't need the Haltech as you could use the ecu from the Diamante. The MIVEC's came in the japanese 30M Diamantes. This site has all their info

produced between 95 and 96

Word. If i was you dude, i'd go the 3.0 Mivec screamer, keep the manual and use an aftermarket ecu to run it, you'd get the most performace out of all your engine choices and minimum fuss, like dave said, no emission testing, relicensing etc and you get an engine that will probably go just as hard as a 3.5 or even harder (mivec rev a lot higher) plus you can use any aftermarket FTO engine accessories (which there will be a decent amount of). Its the best choice for everything, performance, ease of install and probably on par with cost vs a 3.5! Another 3rd gen did a Mivec conversion and sold it, ask who ever bought it or the seller (if you can find them) about it, i bet it goes great guns.

Good luck with whatever you do. (I'm with the mivec crew on this one  )

Yeah it was Meansolara that did the convertion

:) Yeah true, but the main reason I said that was just to say that a piggyback isn't actually needed, but with a manual it would be sooooo much better :D
Go the MIVEC! You know you want to
