Hey everyone, my dad and i just bought a '94 Verada ei as my first car and it has a buggered transmission (auto :doubt: ) but i'm gonna replace that no worries...

I went out with my mates, (i didn't take my car out) and we watched some drags with WRX's that were heaps modified, and i wanna be able to take my car out without looking like an idiot in a stock heapa.

What are some quick cheap mods that i can do to it spending around the $3000 mark all up...just like engine, exhaust, suspension stuff...

I'm considering doing the engine conversion to :bowrofl: DOHC cause that's just so freakin cool.

Any ideas / help will be appreciated

Your first 2k best spent will be a manual conversion which will take nearly a full second off your 1/4 mile time. The other 1k would cover all other basic breathing mods, namely headers and better flowing mufflers to get the dirty gases out (stock piping good enough), and a performance air filter, possibly cold air intake and flowed throttle body to get the happy gases in lol

Good luck with whatever you decide on.

ok here we go
seeing as its ur first car id personally(so take this like a grain of salt if u dont agree) id go for handling and looks first only cos for performace wise ud be looking at about 3- 5000 bucks to get good gains in power and thats probaly doing it urself too. dont take that the wrong way not digging at ya for wanting more power cos im sure with enough money u can get as much power as u want. but i recon it would be more fun to drive if u lowered it say
kings or lovells(bad spelling) low's springs at the back with struts to suit, then low's or supa low's on the front with struts to suit, then maybe a thicker front sway bar and add a rear sway bar, then maybe a strut brace, dba sloted dics and high performance pads and brake fluid also maybe a CAI then sum decent rims, color code the body, tint the windows. the reason for suggesting handling mods is cause when u do give it a heap of power it gonna stop good and will handle like it's on rails which is better than giving it heaps of power then it wont stop easyly or handle as good as it could. thats just what id do also it gives u time to get to know how the car drives and feels inside out untill u save sun decent dosh for power or dohc conversion if u get my drift. oh and welcome to AMC and if u have any probs or question just ask and u should get all the help u need cos the members here are great for helping out:D

I like the idea of lowering the car. Would $3000 cover a louder exhaust and lowering?? Also, the car's marone so i was thinking full respray to Black, the current paint has weird defects, how much to respray it?

As far as converting to manual, i don't really wanna drag, so auto is cool for the moment till i have to cash to really increse the power of the car, till then handling, looks and the sound of the exhaust are mods i wanna do (within the $3000 mark).

So i guess lowering it is on the list....exhaust next?

God damn. where did you get all this stuff from so cheap? Manual conversion will cost about $4k from what others have told me. That includes labour etc. And headers are expensive too.

i think tecoDan just did a 2nd gen manual conversion for around $500 (the price of a cheap bombed out one).. hehe.

My current auto slips from first to third and there's no overdrive after third, so i have to replace that....or overhaul it....F*** that for $2000

How much to convert TS from auto to manual....anyone know a ballpark on that one?

The car cost me $1800, since i have spent money on new CV's and tommorow i'm getting a minor oil leak fixed and a strange overheating problem fixed (doesnt over heat with A/C on...fans are screwed??).

I have been quoted $600 for the secondhand transmission, fitted.

As soon as that's all good, i'll get the engine looked at by my mechanic at EuroTune and if he gives it the all clear....Modding Time

nope that was a first gen

as for price for a respay it all depends on the quailty. id say for a good job anywhere from 2500-5000 depends on the panel beater
lowering back spings about 250-300 struts about 199
about the same for the front
dont quote me on the price its just an idea

also if u want to see what potential it has just take a look at the Post ur ride section in the Second Generation part of the main page. that way u can see what others did to theres and get a whole heap of ideas gook luck with it all

Mate easily, lowering done at the auto shop is only around $400 and for an exhaust depends what you want but if your going the performance route later on i'd do the WHOLE system with hi-flo cat, extractors ect, you could get it done for around $1,200.
Then if you want to squeeze some more out of your $3k go for wheels, a set of nice 17" mags new with tyres you can pick up for around $1,400.

Thats $3k all up and you'll have a dumped (low) car riding on some 17's with a phat sounding/looking exhaust that also gives you a bit of a power boost.
Not bad :)

LOL!
$300 for 2 springs? :gtfo:
$240 for all 4 springs, $440 for struts.
A decent respray will cost you $3k plus.
A DOHC conversion will cost you more than $3k.
My advice:
Lowered with some monroe GT or konis. $700
Some nice 2nd hand 16's or 17's $500 - $1000
Then if you want go with abit of performance like:
Extracters around $500ish i believe
Change rear muffler, usually between $120 - $200 (depending on brand).
CAI with K&N pod or panel, $120-$300
All this wont give your car ALOT of power, but it'll improve it.

with ur fan it might just be a blown fuse or a faulty relay. so check them before u get a new fan.id spend the 2000 before fitting a second hand unit for 600 . only cause say u fit the second hand one, first thing is ur not sure how it got treated before it goes into ur car, u dont want it to do the same thing as ur current one a couple of months down the track. at least if ur tranny gets over haulled ull know its service history and u know almost 100% nothing will go wrong with it , unless it dosent get maintained. but thats only my thoughts at the end of the day its what u want.

Maybe i should fix the verada (with $600 tranny), sell it for as much as i can, then get a TS magna manual and do the DOHC conversion, plus other mods. I wanna stick to the TS shape, i've gotten to like it a fair bit.

Annoys me when a 6G74 drives past me...damn i want one of those.

I like the idea of spending $3000 on the verada, lowering it and putting exhaust system in it, but it depends on what my mechnic says about it. The things done 260,000K's, don't wanna mod it if it only has a years life left in the motor, or if i'm gonna be shelling out heaps of cash for repairs...anyone here have a 6g72 with as many or more K's on the clock and still runs well???

in the long run that might work out cheaper and u might find a ts with lower klms.

I personally wouldnt bother with this one. Why not get a cheap 3rd gen? You can pick up a te/tf for $5k.

My mechanic at EuroTune gave me the all clear on this one, says the engine is solid and ready for modding. I'll probably only spend $3k on this car, then sometime next year i'll swap up or accross to a manual car of some sort.

Plan is now that i got a job, Fix tranny (making sure there is some kind of warranty) Go exhaust...then lower it....then rims and tyres (17" white with low, but not heaps low profile tyres). I just gotta have a full service done first.

Can anyone give me Prices and Brands to go for when it comes to those parts?

Yes but there is a saying that you shouldnt throw good money after bad. Although it appears his engine checks out so I guess its up to him now. Happy modding.

As others have said before!!!
Exhaust & Extractors= $1000-$1200 Brands either Redback or Lukey most popular choices!
17'rims & tyres= Depending on brand new or 2nd hand.....if brand new about 1200-1400
check out bob janes they have some good deals on wheels.
Lowering- Springs & labour 500 give or take. brands most ppl go with lovells or king springs.

Cheers hope this helps

how much did u buy this car for??? coz if u were gonna spend another 3grand on mods, u were probably better off getting a 3rd gen magna with the V6, that would already got an extra 20kw ontop of the 2nd gen V6 which i realise u have under your bonnet based on your sig

i was thinkin about doing that, but i like veradas, and the 3rd gen veradas aren't cheap, plus...my car's motor is apparently in good cond. so i dont mind spending cash on it. I'll probably swap it out next year anyway for a DOHC with less kms. Plus, the shape of the 2nd gen looks awesome lowered with big rims, which brings me to my next question...

i was lookin at some New rims, OZ 17" x 8" with Falken tires for $1400, with my KS lowered 1.5" will these rims work, and will my speedo be out?
