Ok I've got a V6 96 TE, last few days it's had this miss from the engine thats on and off. This morning drove to airport, it started as soon as I turned the key,no problems what so ever going there.Didn't miss a beat.Drove home not a problem but when I went to go out about 20mins after getting home it turned over a while before starting.Drove down to Hyperdome and all was well. but on the way home it started to miss again, it will drive really smooth ,then as soon as you go to accelerate she starts to miss. If I back and go again it's fine or if I push a little more it's fine but if I leave the peddle where it is it just keeps missing and basically dies.
because of the hours I work I still cant get it in to a machinic till Wednesday but wanting any ideas about what could be wrong before taking it there and paying for something it's not. I replaced fuel filter Thursday and plugs and leads where replaced about 4months ago.I have looked at dissy cap but no visible cracks or marks in or around it.PVC hose was really sloppy but replaced that. There is no noticeable miss if left in park and reved.Any help would be greatly appreciated:confused:

Maby your Air Flow Meter connection is faulty or the AFM its self. My old TH I did'nt put the plug back in properly, when I was crusing it was ok untill i accelerated then i missed badly

ok just an update.....if I start the car and it fires straight away I have no problems with it, but if I start it and it turns over a couple of times before firing it runs like crap. You can be driving along smoothly then slow down to go around a round-about ,about to take off then it has this miss/dead spot in the engine.Drove down to sea world Thursday went down without a problem but on the way back ran like pig.At one speed it was fine then as soon as you went to accelerate it started coughing and crapping.Go back to the speed you where at and all is fine.Tried booking it in for 2 days now but can't get looked at till Thursday. But all the machinics I have taken it to have different opinions about what it could be.Went it does take a while to start ( about 5-6 turns overs) it sounds like the dissy gives out a clikcking noise.Open to any suggstions ......apart from can of fuel and a match.

ok went out side started her up but she is running fine, started straight away.So this is one of the problems to get her to do it when needed. However I have not changed the leads since I have had her in 2 yrs ,but plugs where changed with timming belts and other various parts .The plugs are super 4's ( 4 electrodriods ) front and back.I dont think they should have fowled just yet they are only 6mths old.But will change the leads tomorrow.Along with the dissy cap.I will also give all the plugs a spray with contact cleaner just in case.

Alright went to mister spanners as they do our work vehicles so it was easier just to get them to look at the car. They rung me up after having the car for a few hours and told me that the plugs where stuffed and they need to replace the leads and dissy cap and rotor ???? Strange because they plugs are about 4mths old and we multimetered the leads and nothing strange there either.Apparantley the electrical system and engine tested ok no fault codes or spikes ...but to do the job as in plugs, leads, dissycap and rotor they quoted $920.00 .Funny hting is they told me over the phone they had the motor in bits basically plugs leads etc and yet when I picked it up I had a look and because I amoural the engine bay I couldn't see one finger print or hand mark on the engine at all :doubt: But wnet down today and got new cap and rotor from Mitsubishi $204 then over to repco for leads and plugs $174.00.3 x double platinum for rear and 3 x copper plus for front. Will fit them tomorrow so I'll see if that fixes the problem:doubt:

Sounds like someone is pulling your chain. No finger prints or nothing. Thats nuts. Unless they were using some special gloves that leaves no marks. I smell something here. You mention they do your other vehicles private/company either way i would check these ones out and make sure the work you are paying for is actually getting done. Best thing to do is do it yourself. May look complex but its easy in reallity. You can also run platinums on the front as well if you like. I am doing this and no side affects so far.
Good luck with it.

I only give it a light spray over the engine bay mainly just rubbers and hoses. But pulled evrything out of iut this morning...plugs,leads,cap and rotor. There was alittle bit of oil in the rear banks ,not internally on the plugs but where the lead sits.Had a look at the old leads and the lip that seals around the tappet cover was split.Maybe oil dripping down arcing out the plug causing the miss ????Anyway after putting new gear in turned the key and perfect. No delay started straight away, no miss ,no more trouble.I hope:doubt: .took it for a drive pushed it and never missed a beat.So guessing I would have to say the leads??? because the plugs look to be good and the dissy cap and rotor could've gone on for a little longer.Anyway thanks for the help and may see you all on the 28th if I can change my work roster.:D

Check your Tempreture sensor.. it could be triggering the Automatic Choke... mine has developed this Problem just recently..

Now I just have to Track Down a Tempreture Sensor..

Just a quick follow up.......she hasn't missed a beat since the new stuff went in so it was one or other, I would nearly bet a left testicle it was leads......$370.00 compaired to $920.00.Maxium with clean up 1 and 1/2 hours so that is around $370.00 an hour they where charging.Definately going back there .....NOT!
Thanks for the info fella's.

Geez, $370 for that stuff is pretty steep. I might be showing my age, but that sort of stuff on my old Datsun 1600 used to cost me all up about $100 (plugs 4x$8, Dizzy cap $20, Rotor $12, Leads $36).
Times are a changin...

Could have just been the leads.
I use high tension leads (i think thats the right word (ceramic something or other lol)) and i broke the core of one a few weeks back when i took the rocker cover off (my half moon seal started leaking).
I made a habit of replacing the leads at the same time as the plugs. Hell, its only another $30ish.

Yeah thats true, a faulty sensor could be causing an over rich fuel mixture. This may in turn foul the plugs? not sure on that one. Sounds like they were ripping you off, I wouldn't expect the whole lot needing replacing. What caused the whole lot to go crook! I know that sometimes one thing can lead to another but in the case of those parts, its unlikely. If your plugs are only 4 months old, you should check them yourself (if you can). Now legally any old parts you can request to see and retrieve back if you get work done, so you can see for yourself or get a second opinion (just hope they don't switch the parts)!

If you plugs are indeed fouled, then replacing them will not help! at least in the long term. Don't put the platinums in, they'll get ruined. On the Bosch website (and other places) they have a handy document that shows your spark plugs and different problems like fouling, incorrect burning etc. That will help you eliminate any problem thats causing the fouling. Look at the document and you would never have known were so many different problems! You can directly compare your plugs to the ones on the screen, and read what they say for causes etc.

I'd do that before replacing ANYTHING. Least then you may be able to get a refund if you haven't used the other parts or opened them etc.
