Hi guys

I'm currently looking at a 1996 TE Magna Executive with 132,000 km on the clock. I am getting a bit of a loan and plan on keeping the car at least 5 years and travelling around 20 - 25,000 Km a year. My only concern is that the engine and gearbox will hold up without any problems - 250,000 Km +... of course I have seen a few Magna's of the same vintage with 250,000 Km on them but then I don't know their history either. It's not that I doubt Magna's at all.. I just want opinions.

My TR has 268,000 kms. Going great :D

A few little suspension rattles, but I'm going to get new shocks and springs anyway, and the problem isnt chronic.

I've got about 290,000 kms and going well.

Auto gearbox is starting to have a few problems though, may only need a good service.

If the previous owner knows how to take care and maintain the engine properly, I don't see why a magna can't last over 300000kms... or even more..

It all comes down to the owner driving it..

Being Darwin the chances are the car has done plent of long trips that are good.
Make sure all the 90000 major service things were done, ie plugs and cam belt mainly.

Thanks for the opinions and advice guys. I plan on looking after this car to make it last. When I took the car for a drive it was very smooth on power delivery and pretty damn quiet. I managed to get $2500 off the price today thanks to a mistake on the dealers part. Thank god my dad was with me or I'd have been financially ruined. Simple advice we've all heard many times before - do not sign unless you understand what you are signing! Because I signed.. and I didn't know what I was signing and it was only through pure luck that I managed to come out on top.

hey, if your wondering, iv got a 1996 TE magna, 5 spd, with about 130 something kays on the clock, and nothing has broken or failed yet, except a stupid crank angle sensor , but yeah, rock solid so far, im keepin this one hopefully till just under 200 000kms, then selling it, .... so my advice is that magna's go hard and go long hahah

happy magnering,

Yeah thanks for that Benny and the rest. I picked the car up yesterday and I'm pretty happy with it :) I wish I could just drive it round and round and round..

I guess that my main concern was with seeing a lot of Commodores and Falcons around the place with ~ 200,000 Km on them half stuffed or in need of a lot of attention. But I figure it all comes down to how you treat and maintain the car and that any make or model can turn out to be a piece of shit if you treat it that way so I'm not worried at all.

Yeah thanks man. I don't exactly know who you are (we have probably never met) but I have been to a handful of of DGA's and I have seen your Magna a couple of times round the place.. can't miss it with those plates :)
