Hi everyone, need some help! (Obviously)

Ok, I bought myself a new HU for my TR, installed fine, works great etc etc.

Now I gave my old Pioneer HU to my mate to put in his Mitsu Starwagon (Laugh if you like etc).

Anyway, we hooked that all up, all fine and stuff, worked fine on his stock speakers, he just had to crank the volume up to about 40, to get a decent level of sound.

So we went out and got him a pair of 6x9's (same as mine) JBL's.

Connected them up and everything.

Turns the car on...

6x9's Work fine, HU is fine...he continues to put the volume up, got to about 35...then it just died.

Now the head unit won't even switch on.

What we have done.

Checked/Replaced fuse on HU (Still no good)
Checked all his wires, they are fine
Unplugged the 6x9's (Still no good)
Checked his car fuses, now this is where it gets tricky. On my TR the HU ran fine on a car fuse of 10A.

The Starwagon uses 15A for both radio plugs.
Also the HU we're using is on a 10A fuse, do we need to put a 15A fuse in that?

The help I need is some more trouble shooting to assess what's going on, we're gonna plug the old HU in my car and see if it works, and if it does it's his car. If not could it be something interal in the HU?

Help Would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
mL

if it doesn't work in your car either, it is hu related. Now have you tested to fuse on the hu with a multimeter? could be an internal fuse blown as well.

Well any reasons as to why the HU is stuffed? All he had were the two 210W 6x9's connected to it. This is just so I can explain to my friend, who I gave the HU too, that he ****ed it. He rushed the job aswell so it wouldn't surprise me if he ****ed up.

Also, is it worth getting it replaced or not?

stick your stock ones back in... if they work... then it should be your new HU....

Hold up, Hold Up. Everyones getting confused.

The HU has been working for the last 4months, not problems in a TR . Hooked up to 210W 6x9's and 2x 4" Paper Cones.

Gave the Head Unit to friend, hooked it up, it initially worked fine, once we connected the 6x9's to it, he was cranking the volume and it switched off.

The Head Unit in question is a Pioneer DEH-3750MP.

I'm interested in this "reset" switch.

If it hasn't got anything like that, are they cheap to repair or not?

Well I know it's an old model, it was a gift to my mate, and it just sucks that he's forked out cash to get 6x9's and the HU is stuffed, so you reckon he's better off just getting a new HU?

Yeah warrenty is valid, but I kept the box and everything, couldn't find the god damn recept!

usually the first thing on a headunit to blow is the Amplifier Module at the back inside the unit ... new one from pioneer is around $110 or if you know anyone that can order from Wes Components you can get the same thing from them for about $35

i've seen this on a number of occasions and this has pretty much fixed it each time ... it's an easy job to do ... just de-solder the old one and put the new one in ... should take around 30 mins

if you have the unit out just smell the back to see if you can smell a burnt electronic smell ... but it should'nt be a really strong smell
