Well its now been over 2 weeks since I picked up the 380. I have heard many comments and fielded many questions on the percieved harshness of running a vehicle on 20in rims.

All I can say with my experience so far is they are as smooth as silk. They are very will suited the the excellent road surfaces we have in the A.C.T though the opinion may change after my first trip to Sydney.

Just my 2c

Cheers.

Yeah we really are spoilt in Canberra, with easily the best roads in Australia.
Its when you leave and hit the country roads, and other cities roads that you realise!!!
My mate works at local tyre dealer, and said they quiet often get common 17 inch alloys with 45 series tyres in with bent rims from pot hole strikes, but is far more common with 18's, 19's, and 20's etc. Apparently Commodore SS's with their firm suspension are a regular for bent rims. He said alot of people don't even realise, as they get use to slight shake in car, or wheels are fitted to rear. Is she lowered as well, cause this will multiply any effects?

Big wheels look awesome until you have to start forking out for repairs, or replacements, which in these sizes as we all know = $$$$
But some people are lucky and never have this problem, so goodluck.

heheh.. I don't feel so bad with my stock VR-X rims. 50 profile rubber looks unfashionable, as do 17s.. but no dramas here. And I've hit a few potholes!

Yeah, lowered bout 2in. I had a VX SS for 3 years, never had any dramas with the rims either.

Fingers crossed on this one.:doubt:

I live on the NSW Central Coast and the councils here have this habit of digging up a road, leaving it with a surface worse than what it originally was for a couple months, then finally resealing it. Add to this, they have the nerve to put up electronic signs which tell us how fast we are going and if going over 40, the sign tells us to slow down. The only reason we would need to slow is not for the road workers (because they are no where to be seen), but for the crap road surface that cars must bump and thump over. I wish the useless bastards just left the bloody thing alone until they were ready to reseal in one hit.

The Entrance Road Bateau Bay and Erina are good current examples.

Oh yeah and Sydney roads are like the above described but never get fixed.

Yeah, sarcasam is pretty easy to miss, so my appologies.

Sydney roads are shocking, I live in Ku-ring-gai which has some of the worst roads. My brother buckled his stock standard 14 inch corolla tyre rim on a deep pothole - and that was with a high profile!

A lot of people have 4wds around here too - I don't blame them actually, Sydney's poor road quality probably justifies the use and ownership of the torak tractor. The ironic catch to the whole argument is however that the increased use of 4wds and just trucks and buses in general are contributing to even worse road wear.

And a big thumbs up (sarcasam again) to the cross city tunnel, who's road base suggests that ku-ring-gai council had some form of input into it's foundations.

Hell no!
I've been on my 20's for about 9 months, i think and the ride isn't too bad at all. I have relative standard suspension (just lowered springs on koni shocks) so that definatly helps. On this car i won't be going back to something smaller in the near future

You've actually been through the cross city tunnel?

I've never met someone who has used it.:bowrofl: :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

Sorry Off topic, Now back to the topic:

The suspension set up can sometimes have a bigger part in the ride quality then the Wheel size.

i dont think any city can beat townsvilles idiot proof road system for simplicity of getting around. When i visited townsville earlier this year it was the first time i had been there since i was 6, yet i still managed to drive everywhere i needed to go without any dramas and without looking at a map once! You just get onto the main road and just head in the vague direction of where you wanna go and you can be guaranteed you will get there! completely idiot proof!

why don't everyone buy a crappy 4wd, park on the kerbs so i can't see traffic too well, take up two car spaces, annoy me by thinking you own the roads, have a pointless extra 2 seats, that will, if at all, get used, increase the chance of you rolling on my car cause its so top heavy, also hurting my eyes with the shear ugliness of a 4wd, increase the chance of hitting a miget or child cause of your high of the ground, all this,

just so you can have 20 in rims, and go over pot holes knowing no damage will be done

We have crappy roads just to justify our Land Cruisers & Range Rovers!

valaxy66- horses for courses. i have 2 4wds both lifted and i cant say that ever thought i was going roll onto somebody.as for hitting kids and midgets some pass cars & p/movers have worse rear visibilty than 4wds.dont want to hijack the thread but broad, uneducated generalisations get my goat.

Since this thread is titled ride quality on 20s i figured id post up since i just got 20s :D

Car has a better centre of gravity due to lowering, got the KYB shocks in the car so the ride is pretty smooth. If u hit a bump you know u hit a bump though. whole car goes into it and makes a clunk. ride is more bouncy than stock but this is to be expected.

Overall for the look i wanted, the ride is good enough for me...

hmpf, ok,
but still, when you people park on a cross street blocking my view of oncoming traffic, that pisses me off, and same goes with vans etc. about the hitting kids, i've seen two 4wd almost hit at too different times, ( believe or not, female drivers:doubt: )

and Mr Ed is a horse of course lol

If you have 20's in WA your asking for trouble!

PS - If you didn't realise since you havnt picked up your little brother from school (like me) 4WD's are the new wife mover.

I started counting them one day and lost count after 35+, and its only a 5min trip to his school...

They're totally un-economical in the environment in which a MAJORITY are used, let alone the fact you get next to ****all visibility as a sedan driver. If you're not in the outback, get a *** ute or sedan and forget your American metality that bigger is better! (buy a forrester xt and get the best of both worlds)
