Hey guys,

Recently I was in the market for splits for my girlfriends lancer. I was thinking of the Jaycar route but then decided to take a look around. I ended up choosing the Hertz DSK 6.5inch splits due to the reputation Hertz speakers have of having lots of mid bass. The splits would be running of a pioneer headunit and the only other speakers in the car would be the stock 6inch dual cone rears.

I mounted the speakers using 12mm mdf to make them fit with the mids on the doors and the tweeters mounted high in the kicks. 1st impression was dam, the mid bass was amazing, they almost out do my Boston splits with full S/D doors and 60WRMS. Everything you throw at it was handled very accurately. The tweeters are a little odd, they are a bit quiet for my liking but compliment the woofers nicely. More power would probably tell a different story.

For all those who are looking for a cheap alternative for great sound up front, I picked a set of these up for $155 and sound much better than the jaycars for R&B, hip hop, heavy metal etc.

Hate to say it, but told ya so :P

Aloy of people question the need for a sub with Hertz gear in the front & their 6x9s. DSK's off the headunit is fine, but HSK's you really will want amped. That said, there are plenty of Sony XM-222 and XM-444's about if you want to give them a little more juice.

I have one of each it you would like.... cheap too. Mysti also has some Sony amp... think it's a 444 but don't quote me. No HPF's on them unfortunately, but you could build one to put in the line before the crosover.

Glad you got 'blown away' by them :)

You can get them from Fhrx for $165 if I'm correct.

http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/default_en.htm I think....

HSK is under products, Hi-Energy. DSK under Dieci, or you can just go here (http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/Doc/pdf_dsk165.pdf) for the PDF spec sheet.

FHRX may have them listed for $165, doesn't mean that Charisma paid that much. $165 is the RRP, I think you will find Marty usually always sells a bit under RRP on stuff he is an authorised stockist of anyway. Once you buy a few bits off him like Charisma has, or a few bits at once, the prices mysteriously drop.

Marty currently has the HSK series on special, his current pricing:
* HSK130 (5.25" & 1" component set) $310 (RRP$344)
* HSK165 (6.5" & 1" component set) $327 (RRP$363)
* HSK163 (6.5" & 4" & 1" component set) $485 (RRP$539)

HSKs definately need to be amplified, but yes I agree that with some good power, sound deaden the doors they sound fantastic. I have 60WRMS going through mine, with sound deadening + fully sealed off doors and they give very solid mid-bass. $350 for HSK165 from memory.

Had a pair of HSK 165's (amped') running in my car for a while. They're fantastic. Make sure you dull down the tweaters a bit as they're quite bright. I mounted mine on the dash, second thoughts I might have moutned them lower and left them as loud. All in all.. I've not needed to buy a sub yet, but I'm tempted

Yeah got them from Marty, he is great to deal with. Have bought a fair bit of stuff, none of was really expensive but he feeds my adiction :bowrofl:

I know of the rep they have but for only 20WRMS, and 12mm MDF baffles with no sound deadening it was very good. Got them as doubt they will ever be amped and with 93db sens they work fine for her.

I would prefer the woofer out of the 3way HSK set, plays down to 40Hz and has an Xmax of 4mm ( thats more than most sony subs!! :shock: )

TuffTR I bought these as a Jaycar rival and I can say that the DSK kill the Jaycar!!

I run the HSK-165's in my car with 130W RMS going into them. Need to finish off the MDF Mounts and sealing off the doors because they rattle the heck out of everything :D

Excellent bang for buck speaker though. Picked mine up for like $330? delivered to my door from memory.
