hey just a quick one, looking at focal and hertz and other such audio sites, ive noticed there woofer selection comes in 11" and 13", why is this so? i mean, im used to the good ol 10's and 12's of the more mainstream companies and its just one of those things thts really got me thinking :nuts:

Well because 11 is larger than 10 and 13 is larger than 12... Who cares what size or shape it is really, as long as it suits the requirements of the install.

It's just different. They think it gives them more bass for the money, more cone area = more air moved = bigger SPL. I like the idea of a more 10" sounding sub with the extra cone area of a 12"... so the 11 is a good way to go.
Also, it's because the Europeans like to be a bit different. Morel make splits in 9"...... and even 3-way versions of them.
Once you get up in the ranges to the $2K splits level, wierd sub sizing is very common. They all sound good, and you build the sub box to the T/S specs, not the diameter of the sub.
