couple of things, did u clean the plastics from oil before hand, like with metho, or wax and grease remover, prepsol ???
then how many coats of undercoat did you do, and did you use a plastic primer or a normal car primer ???
then. dont do it in the cold
paint, Especially metalic silver like im presuming you chose needs to be applied in warmish temperatures. which might be a bit difficult for you now as its winter, if you have a small garden shed or garrage that you can heat up with a heater than do this.

Dont paint to close!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Also yes, has to be in warmer weather, i know this can have an effect on clear coat but not to sure on color.
Its best to leave this till the middle of the day when its a nice and bright.
As for your pieces, try and wet sand them down with 800 until they are smooth and try again.
you only use normal primer, are you using the cheap $2 stuff?????? thats where it'll get ya, that stuff is nasty s**t don't you use it anymore.
Get the K&H Primer and top coat clear arcrylic and you'll be laughing best paint ive used

yeah you should be able to....if your after a gloss finish please dont buy the $2.50 clear they sell there.
Just saying you should put some arcrylic clear over the top to protect the paint.
As with that enamel s**t you touch it once and it scratches.

sorry man im not to good with the plastic primer, i just used arcrylic primer from K&H (can get from repco)
give it a few light sands with 1200 WET (leave the paper on water for a good 20 mins, then use it on the paint) to smooth it out again.
The problem i found with that is that sometimes it bubbles, the arcrylic primer goes on good, no matter what i apply it to

Use proper damn paint spend $10 atleast for a tiny sized can!
Now piss off the primer just give a light sand and clean it good then paint doing lots of very light coats with a few minutes in between if you go too heavy or keep adding light coats too fast it will bubble and make little holes everyhwere grrrr, once its uniform colour and dried after an hour don't be a pussy and hit it with a thick coat of colour!
After the colour dries hit it with a thick coat of clear overcoat (carefull too thick and it goes hazy) then leave it 24 hours.
IT WONT SCRATCH OFF, mine looks professional, is very shiny and has lasted 6 months already wit constant touching, i need to basically force a screwdriver along it to make it scratch :D

hmm im using the expensive spray paint ($25 a can) and i dont do light cost or else it comes all rough.
if you do a few medium coats over the primer it wont run, but do one medium coat, dry, another coat, then apply about 2-5 layers of clear

On Topic hows the console going?
darcy
12-05-2006, 09:09 PM
its not really.. i did the instument surround... and its shi*... coz i didnt see it where it didnt stick... so now im gunna have to sand it back... again.... and redo it... apart from that little part.. it actually looks good... will do the other bits when i get the time to do it..
if u want a good job, try a panel shop. They might be able to give u a decent pearl like paint job for less than $100. Saves u a bit of trouble if your not too confident, or sick of resanding :D

might end up doin that... coz i suck at any sort of artistic stuff... yes i know its only painting the console... but, i dun wanna root it up.. i work 60 hours a week.. so i think $100 is good enuf... might have to try and squeeze a day off there somewhere so i can get it done.. thanks for the advise...
now im, giving some advise:P .... do not:
1. Work 60 hours a week in a room that gets no warmer than 8 degrees
2. Go and play rugby and be the captain when ure flat out talking as it is coz ure sick
3. Go out and drink after playing rugby with no voice coz ure sick.
Stick to those rules and u will be fine.
Sorry slightly off topic.. but i need to let it out, coz i cant actually talk right now.. so i may as well type it!!

to me it sounds like your using either the wrong paint/primer or painting it to close....it should come up perfect.
are you using the el cheapo primer?

i first got the cheaper one and it turned out crap... so i then went and got the more expensive one... and its still not right... i am painting it from about 25-30cm away.. so i dont know whats goin on... i will go and get some coarser wet and dry tomorrow and sand the cluster surround back and try again with a whole lotta new stuff.. if that doesnt work.. then its going to get professionally done
