glad I am not approaching him at dawn or early evening, in that half light, when you come in on his right or left. And he can't see you, to give way cos his windows are black. :(
50% is lame.
30% is enough. Even 25% :)

You guys got it around the wrong way.
40% and 50% is lighter.. lol (its the amount of light reflected through the tint).. The lower the percentage the darker it is..
Also. They guy isnt risking jack shit when he does the tint. I spoke to my tinter about the legalities. He said you can do whatever you want to the car. Hes just providing the service and tint..
So its NOT ILLEGAL for them to do it. Youre just getting a fluffed up sell to inflate his price.
*edit*
Heres 2 views of 20% Tint.

Yep, tinting is in VLT percentage. So a 35% VLT means that the tint allows
35 % of visible light to be transmitted through it hence VLT = Visible Light
Transmission.
Mine was done 5 years ago with Auto Perfection on Mullers Road for $285.
Its 35% VLT metalic film with 99 % UV and 99 % IR absorption/reflection.

if this is the case and your pics are of 35% on the sides, mine must be heaps less than that. at that distance side on you pretty much cant see anything inside the car. and i have to stick my head out the window at night to reverse! what is the highest(or lowest) legal in nsw? anyone know?
Bain - very nice :D
And the parking - that's a good point especially at night...
Hmm - so what's 'reasonable'? 35, 45%?
It would be awesome if they had like double sided film of some sort - you cant see inside - yet perfectly from the inside>outside...
Does it exist? (like mirrors)

This is from Vicroads and I believe comes under national road laws ie, vehicle standards information
Windows
All windows of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a light transmittance of at least 35 per cent. However it is desirable that the light transmittance of windows to the side and ahead of the driver is not reduced below 70 per cent.
got this from here

Windscreen
Windscreens fitted to motor vehicles manufactured before July 1971 must transmit at least 70% of visible light. All other motor vehicles must comply with Australian Design Rule (ADR) 8/00 which requires the windscreen to have a light transmittance of at least 75%. However, only windscreens tinted during the manufacturing process are acceptable.
Note: It is permissible for windscreens to have tinted bands of less than 75% light transmittance above the primary vision area. In cases where this band is more than 65mm deep, and extends into the wiper arc area or beyond the top 10% of the windscreen height, evidence may be required to show that the tint does not extend into the primary vision area as defined in Australian Design Rule No 8 - Safety Glass.
That's what I got from the link given by Mal.. it seems you still can't tint the window unless it came from factory Bain0...mmmm....

What does everyone think of tint-a-car?
I'm only thinking of going with them becuase I seem to move cities a lot and if I need to claim on the warantee, I can just drop in to any store.

My first tint was tint a car and I know many others who also use them. At the end of the day they are only as good as the installer however I am yet to hear any bad report about the tint or it's fitting.
My first verada had some trim damage from the footscray office however most of it was rectified with little fuss.

i heard that if u get illegal tint that it voids your insurance... thats not good fof me :) ...
i hear that they do a light test on the windows....
Hey guys & gals...
Just thinking,.. why would you intentionally pay for something that you know is illegal to be done to your car? they illegal for one reason or another (safety reasons!) and how would you go with rego and pink(?!) slip if they're illegal?
Or does that not matter or sum'n? I'm curious - anyone know?
Cheers
Me
qld get ya pink slip once then pay ya rego wen its due, can even do it over the phone and dun need to get another one
illegal or not ppl still are gonna pay for it to get done
