Keep driving. If you run out of fuel and the light hasn't come on, then it's blown! lol

Seriously though, there's no set answer. I think I've only ever driven mine once to the point where the light came on. Had to be quite a bit under the empty tag. That said, even then I think it was maybe a 50 or 55ltr fill, when supposedly I have a 65litre tank (wagon).

Not absolutely certain, but it would be a very good bet that the bulb is a T5. The majority of the minor lights in the dash are T5. The bigger ones are T10.

There's one other light type, in the central column, it's branded as V-2, I have had no success finding them online or in shops. Probably needs to be a certain light with leads, and you have to have a spare socket thing to wrap them into. I'm trying to replace some with LEDs, but there's no real space for resistors, and they're more 3mm than 5mm, so I'll probably need to attempt to find 12V rated 3mm LEDs... [/rant]

suppose to come on with 8 litres left in the tank. The one in my TR blew after awhile and i didn't even realise, nearly ran outer fuel!

ive actually ran out of fuel before the light came on

however, i did just install some dials which required me to remove the needles, may have buggered it up lol

i rekon the fuel lights in the 2nd gens are a bit dodgy. the guage was just above the E and the light would go on and off randomly, so i thought i would keep going till i found cheap petrol. i got into the servo and did a 60.5L fill (sedan).:P

Some dont have them either.

There are TR execs that didnt get them, there's no provision for the globe in the back of the cluster.

I know...there's a few I've taken the instrument clusters out of and there is not a spot to put a light in. I mean there's the hole in the plastic, but there's not a spot in the flexible circuit board.

That sux!
Didn't know mitsu would be that stinge

Anyway, the manual says that the fuel light will begin to light once it hits 8 litres or lower.
So when it goes on, you'll still have enough to get home.

Yeah its not not good to leave it till it goes empty, always fill it up when it gets around the last 1/4 mark, dust and **** can get in and f* up ya guages. But yeah i have had the light go on and off couple of times, then when its really low stays on a little bit longer, but i rekon i got about 25-30 kms out of it so its still drivable and can get you a fair distance but dont always rely on the lights :D

As the people say, the boks says 8ltrs for my 71ltr tank.
The needle on my gauge goes past empty then rests below it, sometime after the light comes on, then I know I can do another 100km, roughly 8-10 litres.
Has never let me down yet!

Another 100km?
Ooow I don't know man that's a bit optimistic there :D

I've generally foung the light to be more generous than the manual so it prob on more around the 10ltr mark give or take. My fuel consumption is usually a bit better than 11k per litre, and the old girl is pretty light with no gas in the tank :D

It hesitates big time with about 2litres left, but I've only been there twice:redface:

Actually 8-10L is quite accurate.....

Still would get ya 80-100K's roughly so plenty of room there

I'd hate to find out the hard way

What do most of you blokes prefer to drive with?
Full tank? Half? Or quarter tank left?

I preffer to drive with ¾ or full.
But i've heard (and makes a great deal of sense too) that if you drive with full tank or anything over half, it increases consumption by 10% because of the added weight from the fuel tank.
Hmm
