well the story goes somthing like this,

my mate whom owns a tn magna gave me a phone call to ask for some help putting on new alt-belt and air-con belt cos his got spat out. he broke his hand and can't do it himself
so i said no probs .i put the alt-belt on and couldn't get the air-con belt on , it seemed to be about 1-2cms off so we thought the shop had given us the wrong size. so we thought we'd just drive down and get the right size seeing as that belt only runs the air-con. so we head into town and half way there the car just dies wtf?? we thought. got out and opened the hood to find no alt-belt there. checked the pulleys and found out the crankshaft had broken and was just free spinning and wobbling so it must of spat the belt out somewhere. what a waist of time that was , so we pushed the car into a parking space and left it there while we walked home. found the belt on the road where we had backed out his drive way so from that point we were just running on the battery untill it died.
now i have a spare tn wagon in my drive way that i can just pull a replacement pulley off.

now my question is has anyone removed the crankshaft pulley. and how did ya remove the bolt without the pulley/engine turning over. cant seem to find any hints in the manual just says to take it off u need to remove the retaining bolt. but when i try to undo it the bolt just spins with the engine. i know it cant be all that hard . pls any input is greatly appreciated:D

the keyway has stripped at the pully a bit of bad luck the nut must have come undone

you take off the starter motor and put a tyre lever or a large screwdriver into the flywheel cogs

or take of the small metal plate off at the end of the sump where you undo the pressure plate bolts if its a manual you can block the turn with a metal bracket you can make up
there and alsodo the same if it is an automatic

other than that take the sump off and brace the conrods

now im not sure it the keyway has stripped cos i havent taken it off yet.
i dont need to drain engine before taking out the starter do i ??
if not that sounds like the easyest way to stop the motor turning so i can undo the bolt on the crankshaft pulley.
also have u guys had any trouble taking off the air-con belt? cos the bolt thats on the idler pulley for slackening/tightening the belt is undone the whole way to take as much slack off it as possible. but the belt is still very tight , it's actually as tight as ur supposed to have it. a deflection of .9-1.2cms
im just asking as much as i can cos the cars stuck in town for the second time in a few days and he's got no money left from having it towed the first time. so i need to take the pulley off the tn ive got here for parts and make a trip into town and fix it in the carpark.

now the pic ive attached is what i could see has happend. cos the bolt on the broken crankshaft pulley is still very tight (didn't come undone i know that much).

ok got the bastard off finally. well the pulley once it had been moved a bit it slide up and down very easy but the hard part was that the top of the pulley went past the chassis rail about 5cms . so the rail was blocking it from being slid off. so then i had to take out the front and passengers engine mounts just so the engine would drop enough for the pulley to clear.now that was the easy part now ive got to sit in the sun tommorow and do the same thing to the broken pulley and then do a swap and hope that the pulley was the only reason for the belts coming off which im almost positive was the problem to begin with.

oh a just so i know for tommorow when i put the aircon belt back in, where would i find this other 12mm nut cos the manual only shows the 14mm one and i cant see any others, mind u it would help if his engine wasnt covered in crap.
thanks for all ur help so far buff:D
