I thought I'd post this question up coz I am out of answers:

As posted in my Threads, my car pulls fine in 1st and 2nd gear...when I am in 3rd gear, however, my car just wont "pull" ...it moves and accelerates reaonably well...but other comparable Magnas just pull away from me.

What could cause this? - This question is dedicated to those "freaks" who honestly know what they are talking about. ..I have asked several Mechanics and Magna owners, but we couldnt come up with a plausible solution.

Car:
1998 Magna TF Wagon 3.0l Manual

Mods:
Highflowed and OS Throttle Body
Pod, PodBox, CAI
Barrys fuel rail kit
RPW Plenum spacers - pretty useless as my Plenum still gets as hot as before
O2 Chip
Adjustable FuelPressureRegulator
HighFlowed 2 1/2 inch exhaust system incl. HighFlow cat - stock headers!!

WE thought:

- missing pacemakers...cars is high flowed everywhere else, but I still got stock headers.
- car running too lean/rich... will Dyno and check this
- fuel pressure/fuel pump...checked and verified..its NOT this / ran with and without = same
- barrys fuel rail kit...could this cause the car to actually loose performance under load?
- O2 Chip...verified and checked ..it is NOT the chip / ran with and without = same
- Adjustable FuelPressureRegulator .. verified and checked it is NOT this / ran with 15 and 80 psi= same

HELP!

from the mods u got it really hasnt got much from stock. the barry kit and fuel reg are not peformance gains just there to help out with fuel issues...

get some extractors and u will see some improvement..

or as u told me, get some of that fun stuff :D

also gear ratio's will come into play thats why 1st gear will feel like it pulls harder

What are you comparing the other magnas to? 3.0Lt manuals? or 3.5lt Manuals?? I have a mate at work with a 3Lt sports manual, in 1st there's nothing in it, just traction off the start, 2nd gear I just start pulling away, in 3rd I'm pulling away with conviction. Maby its just the 3Lt lack of torque that does it to you.

Ah maby your engine just isnt a particualy stong one, that happens. Anyway get extractors and you'll fell a difference. Maby save up for a plugin and get it tuned, you may gain an above average amount of power compared to others from it.

Anyway how many k's has it done?

Could be anything Chan. As mentioned your timming belts were lined up differently in the early days. Only other thing i can think of is possibly a blocked CAT but you say it still pulls fine in 1st and 2nd..

Well your engine isnt exactly new now is it, maby your expecting to much from a tired engine. Maby the previous owners never serviced it properly. Ummm check your fuel filter aswell maby.

I dont think its the kays. It used to go better than what it is now. One of the major changes that was done were the timming gears were repositioned. This could be part of the problem.

I think you mean maybe ;)

But I would have thought that if it's only in one specific gear that the gearbox would be the most likely cause. A dyno test in each gear would be the best way to see if there is any real difference, as the power curve should be almost the same in each gear.
