Hi, I have front suspension noise ( both sides ) over bumps which I believe is not right, but Toowong mitsubishi says there is nothing wrong and this is normal suspension noise. It certainly doesn't sound normal and has been in the car since I bought it last year. They did replace the strut cap bearings but the annoying noise is still there. I am not convinced as no other car I drive or ride in seems to have this problem.
I would like to get a suspension specialist to check it out, one who knows magna's well.
Can someone recommend somewhere to go in Brisbane.

Thanks

Jim

What kind of noise?? Thump? Rattle?? Knocking???

I have the same model car... Can't say there are any 'unusual' noises coming from the front end...:doubt:

I had my front shocks replaced under warranty as I had a knocking noise. Sounded like something large and heavy rattling.

I have a tl awd which I bought new. I first noticed a faint noise in the passenger side when the car only had about 400klm on it. The noise has been gradually been getting louder. So far the car has had 2 new strut top plates, 2 new struts, and 2 new sway bar connecting links. Still has the noise. Now I have more noises (clunks when going over bumbs) in the front which I think are coming from the drive shafts. If I get under the car and give the drive shafts a wriggle around the new noises go away for a few days and then gradually come back. The car now has almost 32000k on it.
Last week the local service centre had asked me to bring the car in as the state service manager was coming to town and they wanted him to have a listen. So I arranged to take time off work to be there and at 5 past 8 in the morning the local service manager called me to say he had just got an e-mail saying the bloke from Sydney wasn't coming. Hour and a half off work for nothing. The head honcho is now supposed to be coming in a couple of weeks.

The noise is really starting to piss me off.

The climate control air that has an insane mind of its own, I can live with.
The "you beaut" 5 speed tiptronic transmission that can't seem to decide what gear to select on a rolling start after I almost stop and then move off again. I can live with that. ( I have no idea why everyone raves about the titronic, my old skyline had a better tranny in it. Yes the tranny was checked at the last service and they reckon its ok.) They say the tranny learns your driving style. Well I haven't changed mine and its still hasn't learnt it after 32000K.

I can't live with the wallowy ride and handling ( it is a base model so I expected that) but I'm reluctant to change the springs and struts until this noise problem is sorted out because as soon as I change anything they will try and blame the noise on the new struts.

Better built!! yeah right
Better Backed!! jury is still out on that.

I do like the Awd though. great on a wet road.

Will I buy a 380 when the lease is up on this? No fXXXing way. In fact I don't think I would buy another Mitsubishi.
Next car will be either a Subaru awd or a Maxda 6 mps. Only reason I haven't done this already is I haven't had the TL long enough to make the loss in value easier to take.
I bought the TL on the strength of the TR wagon I had before, my Dad bought it new and when he died I kept it. Only a base model 4 cyl but no real issues with it until I sold it at 120,000 K

For the sake of the people in Aust who's jobs rely on the 380, I hope it does ok, but I won't risk blowing my money on one to find out.

I still actually have a small noise from the front left even though I have adjustable konis and kings springs. The noise may be surpressed as its a Verada and has more sound proofing. It isnt too loud and I have almost gotten over it but if you find a solution please tell us about it.

There is a rubber mount that the spring sits in on the front - sometimes these go bad and have to be replaced - Mitsu did both sides on my AWD and I haven't heard the problem since.

i still have the tranny issue too - they checked it once, they say it learns, i just learn to select a gear myself more often (i've got just under 24k on mine)

With the tiptronic

I find that the car does need teaching whenever I take the battery off.

It is fun to teach it by manual selecting. After a while it will change gear as if you were doing it yourself.

Hi and thanks for all the replies.

I would say it is a thumping noise. It seems to be from both sides and you can feel it through the steering wheel.
Is the Pedders suspension check likely to find this problem.

Hey no one recommended another suspension specialist in Brisbane, is there one??

Thanks

Is there a fulcrum in Brisbane? Heard these are good.

Have you tried Fulcrum - the factory/parts shop/workshop is over at Rocklea, I found them to be pretty helpful when I went there. On the same side as Nissan dealership, behind the timber place on side street, street is just after an import car yard.
or If you are on the north side and after some performance shocks/suspension this guy is very good - Scot Darra. He was good with my R32, R31 and my old tm magna. He used to do normal suspension work but not sure if he does road cars these days, he may just specialise in race cars - worth a call at least.

My suspension squeeks when the car comes down off bumps occasionally, I believe its due to dry cv bushes in the suspension - not a big issue, rather just annoyance.
