Now I know Hertz have good product, though I also know that some speakers are suited to certain styles of music better than others. So my question is here - how do these speakers fair with hip-hop?
Also, I was thinking of maybe just saving for a bit longer and getting a pair of Phoenix Gold Xenon X6.5; would this be a better way to go, or would I be better at just looking towards a different brand? Eg. Boston, Focal, Morel etc.

(Spilts will be amped)

the 165's will do really well for Hip-Hop, or any Dance genre, especially when amped.

The PG's would also be great, the Boston's would be next on my list.

i have a set of these hertz running off a boston gt40 amp 4 channel amp bridged down to 2 channels and they sound mint..... i listen to hip hop rnb and almost everything else.. u can easily hear that breath the artist takes before singing.

i'd reccomend giving them about 150rms and definitely sound deaden the doors and they will sound mint

Has anyone had any experience with the HSK163's the 3 way model? I am interested in this sort of setup but cant really justify the next step to dynaudio or the like.

The only thing stopping me from getting the HSK163 is the fact that you'd have to cut more holes in the door. Its an ongoing cost on top of the price of the speakers. Though I suppose if it was justified it would be worth it in the long run.

I know not a direct comparisson but I've had Hertz ESK165s in my car for the last 2 years. ****ing fantastic speakers. Easily the strongest part of my setup. Deep base and crisp highs.

I know it wouldnt be ideal positioning but couldnt you use the indash hole for the midrange and sail mount the tweeter? I think a 3" should fit fine in the dash.

your right, that wouldnt be ideal, but I wouldnt have thought it would be terrible. I dont have any experience with three ways though. tim will be able to tell you more.

The hertz three ways use a cone midrange though, so you would have to make sure you seal the front from the back (unlike dome midranges)

mate has hertz 3 ways,

i used to run hsk midbass (still have them gathering dust)

If I could pick a genre I would pick rnb or hip hop. Although a big generalisation most commercial rnb listeners for car audio care more about speakers that pump, rather than speakers that sound crystal clear (let me know otherwise and I'll recommend other speakers)

The hsk's are known for their midbass and power handling.

Weak point is the tweeter which is a tad harsh, and not very natural.

3 ways are a bit of effort if you want them to look good as well. I'd suggest starting small unless you have the time, patience and money to go 3 way.

otherwise let us know and we can discuss...

Peace

Tim

3way HSK splits looks the goods, has a much better woofer in the system that can play lower ( than the 2ways) . I am definately interested in them sometime in the future but not yet. Only thing I dont like is the crossover is not bi amp so you can only run 1 power input into it, it isn't really a problem if you have a SRx2s with 180WRMS x2 but yeah.

Tweeters are ok, Tim is just a girl and has a supremo... When you have Boston and Hertz tweeters you have real mens harsh tweeters :bowrofl:

Well I've just gotten my insurance bill, so I might be waiting a little longer to get these than I had originally planned for; still, I'm liking the idea of maybe getting the 3-way system a little more. I'll get into talks with Tim and see if the positives can outway the few negatives.

I am aiming at the 3-ways for myself. They sound excellent.
