does everything in this photo look ok? more specifically, how much thread should be coming out the top of that balljoint nut??

reason being, i've pulled everything apart on this wheel about 2-3 times and well there is still a noise when i gear down... like a clunking.

things it's not and i've checked/replaced
Driveshaft - been replaced with a new one after old one snapped
wheel bearings/hub/steering kunckle - got another one after driveshaft snapped and collasped wheel bearing... note that noise has been there even before this happened
tie rod end - brand new
tie rod/steering rack (put powersteering in, still noise is there)
strut - the shocker is new, but could it possibly make noise??
loose brake pads/loose caliper
sloppy ball joint
lower wishbone rubbers - replaced with new
anti sway rubbers/mountings - replaced with new
transmission/diffi am stumped... what could it be??? it's annoying cos it's getting worse... there is also no part listing for an upper strut mount... i'm sure these would wear out eventually. nothing is loose, everything is done up to tension... except i'm not sure about that balljoint nut... very hard to get a spanner onto that one to make sure... only other idea is the inner joint in as far as it can in the relay shaft or can it go in more? the snap ring seems to be holding it in there firmly (picutre #2)

I cant asnwer your question, but thats about the same amount of clearance has on my car regarding the ball joint nut. I remember taking the nut off and failing miserably to seperate the ball joint from the knuckle.

edit: i did have a clunking problem a while ago, it was the thin metal thing surrounding the brakes behind the rotor, that was bent and was continuously hitting. just bent the ****er back into place.

yeah, i'm pretty sure that the backing plate is not touching the rotor. i've tried almost everything! i'm getting desperate!
