First off.. let me intro myself (just got verified today).

I've been driving for 9 years and had never owned a car that was built in the 90's or a 6 cyl...

Then in January, some A'hole decided to write off my Hyundai Excel and I thought that the time was right to upgrade!

I now drive a 99 Magna Executive V6 3.9 and I will NEVER go back! lol

I've been 'browsing' these forums for the last 2 days, and you guys have really helped me in a few things (keyless remote and battery change) but I still have a few Q's that you might be able to help me with.

1. Is it possible to change the keyless remote so that when you press the green button it opens all the doors (not this once for driver's and twice for all doors). I know I might sound lazy but 9 out of 10 times I get into the car, I'm putting kids in the back.

2. I've bought some Decals for the car, but my car has stupid gold pinstriping along the side... is there an easy, safe way to remove it?

3. My horn isn't working... I can hear a click under the bonnet when I press it, but no sound.

4. How easy is it to replace the 'D' light in the dash? it's the only one that doesn't work and it annoys me.

I am good with cars, but not too good with the new ones.. just a simple explanation and I'll have it done no probs.

Wow a 3.9L Magna, I gotta upgrade!!lol Just kidding!! So is it a 3.0L or the bigger 3.5L?

Welcome to the Magna family.

1. I believe the simple answer would be no..:doubt:Might be possible but a double press on the central locking is quick anyway...Hate opening my GF's commondore. Much slower response time by far!!!

2. I've never attempted to remove pinstrips???(I don't even have pinstrips) But to get the bump strip off I beleive fishing line is the go.

3. Magna horn's are pieces of Cr@p ! If it's the horn that's stuffed it's a small blessing. Get a better/louder one. if it's not the horn, it could be the relay (But the clicking means the relay's working..I think?

4. Once you get the instrument cluster out it's fairly easy (I've heard) Tried to get mine out one day, but it was well stuck!!

Cheers,

1. I would say it would be pssible to change the lock and un lock of the keyless remote, but having said that it built in as a feature to stop anyone getting into your car (say in a dark shopping center capark - anti hijacking if you will)

2. Pin striping if the worest! Last time I had to take it off a car, we physicaly pulled it off using nothing but finger nails to unure no scratching then took of the resedue with prepsol

3. Sounds like either the relay is gone or a wire has become loose to the horn. The horn is reallt easy to find, from memory its located up the front of the engine bay, pretty much under the battery housing. Cheak the wiring, if you have a multi meter - even better!

4. Its an easy job, but time consuming. You will ned to remove the dash cluster as the globes are replace from the rear. You will need to take out the black surround and then the screws around the cluster. from there I'm pretty sure the whole cluster comes out - you can disconnect the cluster as the wires to them are a simple plug in style clip. from there you should be able to chage the globe :)

Hope this helps!

Hey dude first of all welcome to AMC lotsa good fellows here to help you out. Pls use the search button to help yourself and then post a new thread if you really are stuck.

I can help with the pin stripes as my car had them when i got it. Just use a hair dryer and heatup the pinstripes then use a plastic ruler or nails to SLOWLY remove the pinstripes. Takes A LOT OF TIME and effort but its well worth it trust me.

The D light has been discussed before just do a quick search for it as for the rest well I'm not too sure yea but anyway welcome to AMC and hope you enjoy yourself here !:D

Thanx Dude.. though I prefer Dudette!

Used the search already for the last few days.. as I said, helped me heaps fixing my keyless remote after the battery was flat and then my battery under the hood died and I thought I had f'd up when the car didn't idle properly... thank god not my bad though...

Anyway.. I'll slowly be doing up my lovely Laguna Green Magna.. will keep you all updated.. main problem for me is the cost of it all... First thing I really need is a spoiler...I CAN'T SEE THE BOOT! Yes, a short **** here! lol

1) No.

2) Pinstriping - just pull it off and polish where it was. Unless someone has gone mad and compounded the car, or fitted it so that it covers tape marks on a respray job - shouldn't be an issue.

3) Check the horn is getting a voltage at its terminals - if it is getting a + supply and no negative, check the earth. If both, horn is probably broken, replace with a BMW horn for more DB :)

4) You have to pull the dash out. Bit of farnarcling - but not too hard. There is a DIY around the site somewhere.

Cheers

Ok. well being female and having wanting everything NOW! I have just taken off the pinstripes with a hairdryer and used metho to take off the sticky after.

I did half the car with hairdryer and half without.. both easy, but the side without left more sticky residue.

Here's some pic's...I hadn't taken the sticky off yet, but you get the drift... IT LOOKS BETTER! lol

Hey dude ..... errmmm dudette opps there it is again hahahha ....Nice job you did with the pin stripes. I used WD40 to remove the sticky stuff and it does not affect the paint or anything. Anyway nex problem is the slight discolouration under the pinstripes like a tan line hahahahha still have not figured a way to get rid of that, do let me know if you come up with a solution ok :D

are you sure that the other times youve tested the horn that the car has been on?

I ask beacuse I have mates with 80's model cars, as you said thats all youve really owned, and their horns work when the cars on or off doesnt matter. But in my 3rd Gen Rada the horn only works when the car is on (or the ignition/accessories, i dunno, but the key must be in and turned)

I'm not that stupid

I actually discovered the horn was not working the first time when a guy cut me off and I wanted to let him know that I wasn't happy, no sound then.

Also, my horn is the alarm. It's happened a few times that I've forgotten that you have to unlock the doors before opening the boot and the horn and lights have gone bezerk, in the last month or so, it's only been lights and no horn....

P.S. My horn works while the car is off... tested again this morning when I got home.

I did a similar thing yesterday.... started driving and playing tunes on my MP3 player... wondering why the sound was only coming out of the left side, but the radio played in stereo?

Took me a good 10km to figure out the MP3 player wasn't plugged in properly....

Welcom to AMC.
I knew you are a female from reading the first post. :D . Anyway, does your remote have a
separate boot release button. I ask as I thought the boot was independent of the doors.
AFAIK thats how it was for my old KS Verada and my new one.

With the horns been intermittent, check the contacts for rust. The horns could also be
dying if you could hear the clicks. So loose contacts due to rust or rusted horn.

Also, to remove glue residue, its better with tea tree oil or any other vegetable oil.

I opened my boot before without unlocking the door and the alarm did not went off !

I have a 2001 TJ VRX. Anyone knows if they came with an alarm?

I tried the panic test before and it worked!

Ok.. now the horn is not working again...

Yes Yes, before you all lecture me, I'll go and buy a new beefy horn this week.

Any suggestions? I'd like it to sound a little :rocket: without giving me a headache....
