Has anyone here changed their timing belt or CV joints themselves? Is it easy and worth doing or should be left to the pros?

For the $300 odd dollars you can get the CV`s done for is not worth doing it yourself..

Timming belt just requires a little time and knowledge..:P

yeah i paid about 300 to get my cv's done....and by the looks of things, it did seem like a pain in the butt of a job.

as for timing belt...well....i successfully did mine this weekend!
i did mine when i replaced my water pump so there was a bit more work for me but ill mention it anyways.

there is a bit of work involved

raise and prop the front left side of the car
remove wheel, inner guard
remove accessory belts
i removed P.S pump because the water pump is bolted up, underneath that pump
support the engine while you remove the engine mount near your overflow bottle
remove all plastic gaurds on the timing area
release the tensioner pully by uncliping the spring
remove dissy cap
the belt may move as the cams spin out of timing.
line up the heads to TDC with a 17mm spanner/ socket
turn the rear cam so the dissy is on cylinder1
once the heads are on TDC, turn the crank with a spanner clockwise toline up the marks.
TDC on crank in on the oil pump.
you may have to turn the crank out of TDC while the cams get timed...(valve may hit cyl)
put the belt on the crank pully, then feed it up to the rear cam keeping as much tension you can without misalligning TDC on crank and cam.
follow belt under water pump pulley keeping tension on the belt.
put the belt onto the front cam.
then onto tensioner pully and clip the spring back on.

YOU MUST KEEP TENSION ON THE TIMING BELT WHILE DOING THIS
turn the crank to make sure there is no resistance (valve may be touching the piston if there is.
then refit everything and ur done. :)
