Hey All,

What i mean is... SOMETIMES meaning 3 out of the last 8 or so days my car is playing up. When i start it it kicks over and revs go up but then it hits around 1500 and it dies. doesn't make any sounds just dies. When i start it, it sounds normal.

It happened once early last week and i thought nothing of it... then about 4 days later it happened twice and i was like hmmm... Then today it happened 3 times now i am worried. and just before like 1 hour ago it happened twice.

after it happened 3 times today i disconnected the battery to reset the ECU but that made no change. when it happened tonight i chucked it in neutral and it worked. Not sure if it was because it was in neutral or i was just lucky.

Now if it help the last thing i did to my car before it started happening was install an air/fuel ratio gauge.

Can anyone advise me if what is wrong and how i go about fixing it.

Thanks

Tris

EDIT: forgot to add it seems to only happen when the car is cold. Once it starts and i have driven around for about 15 mins and its warm it start normally

EDIT2: I am now home and leaving my car just to see it it does happen when it is cold

Sounds like you may need a new battery. Common with the 3rd gen magnas.

The engine will start then die straight away. Happens intermittently.

i thought that at first as well because i installed a new interior light and because i had to force it in it was on all the time really dim though i switched that. But its still happening...

Also my head lights dont seem dim of anything. Come to think of it none of my light of anything seem dim. Also i was advised that if it my battery my headlights would be admitting a warm glow coz the altentor(i think) is working harder

happened to me a few weeks back.. its definatley the battery..

i got a Century Ultra Hi-Performance.. $119.. havent had a single mishap yet..

id also recommend you get one before it decides to chuck it in altogether (like mine did without warning, stuck in town lol)

I've heard the battery can do this also, but it could have something to do with your guage. What wire have you spliced into for the guage? Is it coming off the MAF? If you've damaged that it will cause wierd idle problems.

Does the check engine light stay on while your car does this? (i think it may even if it was healthy).
If you've damaged the O2 sensor signal, i dont think that would cause the car to cut out, run sh!thouse, but not stall.

what does the safety neutral starting switch look like
is it lined up properly
I assume it is an auto
you said the car started when in neutral but not park

might be an internal fault with that unit ?

not necessarily it does start on park just not all the time...

I started it this morning and it worked first time

Yeah, still have the problem. First time it fails, second time starts ok, unless key was taken out of ignition or switched to off. Started happening when i installed my new battery into the boot. Upgraded the cabling since then and hasn't made any difference. I think the battery is faulty. Not sure though.

Yep.....last week i had the same symptoms....one simple answer was the battery was on the way out.
Got a new one and all is good. Shelf life of batteries is around 4-5 years give or take. So anyone with original TJ batteries will find this problem occuring i would imagine.
