I'm looking for a car which has decent power, good value for money, comfortable and built solidly. It needs to be reliable for around 2 years until I can afford my dream car, an EVO.
I am wondering:
Were there any major mechanical issues with the TH, TJ or TL Magnas?
Is the automatic box decent? (I'm not going to mod the car or be 'racing')
Is a Verada of the same year worth the extra over a Magna? Are they built any better?
Does the V6 chew up a lot of fuel? (compared to a 4cyl)

Id go the TJ,

The automatic gear boxs in the magnas post 99 ( 3.5L ) are all fine. if you get a sports or vrx or something you might be able to geta tippy.

Verada isnt built anybetter, but has a more luxury stature.

it can be fairly economical depending on how you drive it obviously. think an average of maybe 10L per 100k is a good guide. obviously if you drive it like you stole it, the fuel economy will get alot worse, like 18L per 100k
you wont be dissapointed.

surprisingly the 2.4L uses more fuel then the 3L, car body is heavy so go fer the V6 you wont regret it ...... psst .... my cars for sale too hehehehe

Gearbox issues were fixed in TF series, and by now any affected gearboxes would have more then likely been fixed now so i wouldnt see it as being a huge issues anymore

Nothing major, not a perfect car but just general niggly things

Fine for normal driving, not as clunky as a commo/falcon, just make sure u keep it regularly serviced (mitsu will not check it for you! u have to ask them to check it for you)

They are worth more, becuase they have so many more features and are a luxury model, dont think they are built any better they are basically tarted up magnas

No, depends on your driving, i drive in peak hour everyday and i avg 10.5/100 (Manual 3.5L) depends how u drive really i think magnas have pretty good fuel economy, but some of them dont (my old 3L auto uses 13/100) but for a 6 they have good fuel economy

I'd go the TL simply cause of the price you can get them now. There a newer car, slightly more standard features and the TJ for the base model, there all tiptronics or manuals. $14999 for a 2 year old car is good value I think and you could most likely talk them down on the price, like paying $21000 for my VRX insteat of $29990 + onroads

But then youd have to look at that ugly front end for your length of ownership!!!! Go the TJ sports or VRX.

I Imagine if you owned one the look would grow on you. (btw. I'm a TJ owner)
I remember I didn't like them at first but they're not as bad as everyone goes on about.
At least they're not AU Falcondore ugly!

They do grow on you. I guess in the end its just a matter of preference. IMO it looks great, and doesnt look like every other joe blow on the road.

In regard to the Veradas, they are also a lot quieter.
The TL front end grew on me, I seriously though, that is fug ugly when they brought it out. But then I bought one and now I like it (if it had color coding light surrounds, I would still think it is ugly).

I had a TL VR, which i liked but wasn't overlly happy with. So i bought a New VRX front bar from mitsis, and grabbed a vrx rear from a wrecker, and wollah, pure sex on wheels. So i call her VR-SEX.
But in regards to your questions, hads town the TL, just look at the features list for the price they are asking. You'll get over the looks quick smart.
