Hello People of AMC

I will be changing my brake pads in 2 weeks time. I have a TJ VRX. At the moment it has the stock brakes and pads and they are crap.

I tried the search and could not find anything that answers my question.

I was thinkimg of putting in

1.Bendix Ultimate
2.EBC Greenstuff or Yellow stuff. Which is better?
3.Ferodo premier pads.

I'm looking at better stopping, less squealing and they have to be really good!

I only have money for pads atm!!

Could anyone give me some feedback on the pads mentioned above I would prefer prices as well on the pads.

Also does the type of brake fluid improve braking and what brand should i use and how does it cost

Further down the line I might upgrade to DBA 4000 series or DBA Gold whichever is better. What do you think??

Thanks a lot

Bendix are what some would recommend, I am using the top range ferrodo ones, seems ok, no big deal and not that cheap. I would go bendix next round.

Please be patient as AMC was down all week.

I ended up getting bendix ultimate pads with the slotted discs when i upgraded my brakes.
There is still a sqealing noise- but some others have experienced that since getting the slotted discs.

The bendix ultimate were recommended alot by amc members so i decided with them- i seriously doubt i will get bendix ultimate again.
At that point, the ebc greenstuff wasnt available for sale due to them not being made for the magna anymore. Cant comment if thats still the case but will opt for these if they are available next brake pad change :)

being able to get the EBC depends on whether or not you have the 'clip' in the front caliper for the pad. i cant remember which, but if u had the clip its either u could get it or you couldnt. all i know is i couldnt so i got the Lucas instead. (cbf goin outside to check now cos its as cold as nun's box right now!!)

- and i too believe that the bendix are crap (for the front at least anyways)

I'm trying this adb (cheap) brand seems okay they on the back brakes I got bendix general CT on the front they seem okay but if you want better braking get slotted disc as well will help a bit.

but its all depends how much you want to spend, bendix range from $50 -$100+

Have ultimates too - very noisey and dust badly.

Im using RDA basic pads. They grip like a motherF@cker... A little noisy, but who cares.

Also using RDA slotted rotors front and back.

Green stuff isn't available anymore for single piston calipers, only twin piston. Im not sure what the VRX has.

single, only Ralliart and AWD have the twin pistons.

in that case, forget about the green stuff, or any others from the 'stuff' labels

I put Bendix Heavy Duty pads on my TJII wagon about 8 months ago. Very happy... no noise, they work fine around town and on the open road towing and they saved our bacon on Monday when someone went through a stop sign right in front of us...

The HD (450°C max working temp) pads sit between Advance (380°C) and Ultimate (550°C) in Bendix range. I paid $80 per axle at Autobarn Belconnen (and had to do a special order).

I now run Ultimates on all my Verada's. Never had any issues other people talk about. Yes they do dust a lot but i can live with that for good braking performance.
Also, yeah they squeal a little but not noisy.
I had advance in my AWD Verada and they sounded like a bus how loud they were squealing everytime i pulled up at lights. Was so embaressing. Changed to Ultimates and noise all gone.
I have heard that some disc types dont like ultimates such as slotted or drilled but stick with the standard discs and they will be fine.

I've decided to get Ferodo Formula TS2000 pads. Has anyone used them before?

yes.

crap. (IMO)

ive used bendix, ferodo, qfm, stock mitsu, and lucas.

i love the lucas, but as i said earlier - they do squeak slightly, and they do produce some dust (but if you get choonga to clean your rims like i did, then you shouldnt have a problem!lol )

Someone told me at ABS that there is only 1 type of Lucas pad. According to him BMW, Mercs and other euro cars use lucas pads

The ultimates are a pretty good brake pad, they are a little noisy, mine were under gentle braking - no noise under hard braking. They were dusty too, but you have to expect that from a performance pad - either the pad wears &/or the disc. If nothings wearing then you aren't stopping.
The noise was worse than the dust to me, I wasn't used to squeaky brakes- only heard it with other pads when they were nearly worn out. It was just a bit embarrassing pulling upto the traffic lights sometimes.
The most important factor - stopping, I had no complaints. Could spend 15 mins on the track without any fade, 5 sessions over 4 hours used about 2mm of pad. At the 150m mark on the back straight of QLD raceway on the long course doing 175kms/hr (not real fast i know but for unmod gts4 ok) and pulling upto 60 for the tight right hander and power sliding out of the corner, no worries at all. Never had any issues on the road at all. I did run ultimates front and rear just to make sure braking balance was maintained.

bingo! and hence why u see the majority of these euro cars w really black rims.....

btw. lucas is rated to something ridiculous like 7,000 degrees or something

Is there a webside for lucas brake pads?
I love the ultimates but they are not avaliable for the rear of an AWD/Ralliart and i dont like having 2 different types on front and rear.

Does anyone know if the Lucas ones are avaliable for both front and rear of an AWD?

Just wondering... does pad choice affect "feel" at the brake pedal?

real curious as there don't seem to be any way to adjust power assistance at booster,
but we've got 2 3rd gens with totally different pedal characteristics.

Sedan has trigger-light (0-100% in like 10mm) action at the top of the pedal throw.

Wagon is mushier (but not sinking to the floor), needs more effort and the bite is
like halfway through the pedal throw & 0-100% over like 30mm.

Both cars I've done 4-wheel lockups so its not as if they're not braking.

Got the bendix ultimate at the front today and the OE pads at the back. will see if they are better. my mechanic said that's its not necessary to have ultimates at the back because most of the braking is at the front, probably 10% rear.

thanks for the replies

65 - 35 but same diff.

Is worth keeping them the same if you can so you dont change your braking characteristics too much under emergency braking because different pads have different frictions.

How do you like the ultimates? A bit of dust around hey but thats a small trade for better brakes.

I used Bendix Advance. They work fine because I don't drive my car like something it's not.

i used to sell a lot of lucas pads in the shop i used to manage. i put lucas on my dads tf(no abs) and they were really good(feel, noise, etc) i put lucas on my tj with rda slotted rotors and i didnt notice any improvement. the tj always had **** brakes from they day i bought it to the day i sold it. lucas are a very dirty pads. if i remember correctly from all the advertising crap the suppliers gave us every 4th car in europe, every 3rd car in japan r fitted oe with lucas.

Maybe its the different size brakes in the AWD to the standard KJ that made the difference but i had the advance fitted to the wifes car and she is no street racer and it sounds like a V8 touring car with its squealing when it pulles up under light braking. It is so embaresing for such a nice car.

I put the Bendix Ultimates on about 4 weeks ago, they were awful. 2 weeks ago I changed them and put on the EBC Greenstuff and they are excellent, low if any noise, low dust and excellent braking.

Given that my previous pads were stock and were really worn out, scary at times when braking, i would say that the ultimates are better. I can feel the difference.

But i would have to change brakes pads straight away like DOG13S to know if they are actually any good. but so far i'm happy.
