As the thread stated above, my coolant has gone from green to yellow. I think it may be due to rust, or just the radiator on it's way out. My overflow bottle is still green though so i'm not sure what's going on.

Any idea's?

Also, possible a dumb question, should I be able to change gears when the car is off, and not having to put the clutch in at all?

Yellow?! Do you put coolant down your toilet?! No? Well............

Are you sure its not just yellow coolant? If not then how long since the last coolant change? Just seems to me like its aged and may have lost some of its anti-corrosvie properties. Or, if its a slight yellow/orange colour its early signs of rust forming.

Also, if you mix different brands of coolant (namely the cheaper brands) they can sometimes react with each other. That might be the cause.

Just release all the coolant out of the radiator, and give the radiator a backflush with a hose. Also might be a good idea to run something like 'Muk-out' through. Refil with a good 60/40 ratio and see if it turns yellow again.

Oh and about the gears, if its a manual then yes.

theres some kind of chameleon brand coolant you can buy that changes from green to yellow when it needs to be changed?

maybe someone put that in the car?.. If not.. I dunno. Rusty coolant. flush it out

Well I got it flushed when just before I bought the car. The coolant WAS green, but now is yellow, most likely rust then, as this is what it was like last time I had a look. It's still full to the brim.

If i get a chance I'll flush it myself this time (instead of paying $120) and put in some new coolant. Not sure what brand they used last time.

just use the most expensive one that ur money can buy. thats what i did but i used 80 percent coolant to soft water not tap water cos theres to many minerals in there.

 80%!!

You do know that water cools better than coolant right? Its just that you need a good mix of both for its anti-freeze/anti-corrosive properties.

but u also know that the magnas hae a tenndancy to rust at the water jackets if u dont maintain ur cooling system. thats why i rather use more. but having said that since owning the magna the temps never gone over half way and i live on the top of queensland so it gets pretty hot here. and the colours nice and green, so it works for me:D
