ok now ive got this friend with a tn efi and it been having lots of problems like last week when the crankshaft pulley fell apart. now its got a new problem , i only saw the car for 5 mins and was dark so i couldn't be 100% wear the noise was coming from. now it sounded like a tinny , metal sound. and the noise was coming from somwhere around wear the engine joins the trans but not sure if its exactly there cos i cant see alot till i come back tommorow during the day and with tools. it only happens when the engine is rotating. starts like a loud sound and then gets quieter as u gather speed , then gets louder again when u start getting to and over 80. now the first thing that came came to mind was something was lose like a bolt or bracket or maybe the starter motor or worst comes to worst the converter in the auto tranny. so if uve got any suggestions plz reply, just incase theres something i forget to check or miss. im going back to his place tommorow arvo to give it a good look and will be taking a spare starter over incase that is the problem. hope so cause thats an easy swap over but im thinking it has more to do with the tranny . hope not cause then ill have to do some real work haha feel free to make any suggestions, more hands make lighter work or in my case less brain power that i have to come up with:D thaks in advance

haha doc smooth is in the house. anyway so far ive swapped overthe starter and the water pump but there all fine. i kinda had an idea they would be so now theres 2 things left the converter or the gearbox. whole lot of fun there. so next week end im just gonna swap the auto from stationwagon to the sedan seeing as the sedan has 260klms on it and the stationwagons got 180klms . i wanna know if theres anything i should keep an eye out or on seeing as ive never had to take an auto out yet. ive read all the parts of the manual that im supposed to, so ill just jack here up and put on stands and drop it down with the go old hydrolic jack. i know its not a hard job just thought there might be a few tips from somone who has done it a few times alredy.:D :D

replace the rear engine seal while you have the box out let than $20 from Repco

the only engine mount you need to undo is the gearbox the rest stay

the most important part is to line up the 2 internal drive flats inside the oil pump to the flats on the torque converter (use a torch to see the flats )
failure to do so will break the oil pump drive as you tighten up you will hear a very large crack thats not good

when I do an auto box I take the bonnet off and sling the box with chain the chain block to lift straight into place

if only using a jack you need to
1 have a wide piece of timber under the box to spead the weight of the box
and you will find it easier to slide the box into place/dont rely on the jack lifting peg
to support the box as the diff is off center and usually the box falls off the jack

2 have the car body on 2 car stands for height higher the better but stay safe

3 make sure you have several beers in the fridge

cheer for that buffy. yea i have to drop it cos ive got no engine lift or block and tackle and if i did ive got nowhere to hang it from plus my friggen drive way is all stones and the shed full with the old falcon. now with the seal is there a name for it. i mean is it named rear engine seal? cos the guys at my local repco dont allways know what i mean when i ask for parts for the magna and i want to make sure i get the right seal fist time.
as for the jack ive got a hydrulic one on wheels , like what mechanics use and i supose ill just bolt a nice flat bit of wood to it.
