picked myself up some pioneer 6x9`s today and a pair of plastic spacers to go over my existing 6" holes... installed them in the rolla, but the parcel tray is old, ****ty and most likely rotten...so as a result all the sound is rebounding off the metal beneath the parcel shelf and i now have no midbass

so i had an idea... what if i were to line the spacer, the parcel shelf under the spacer and the 6" hole with sound deadening? would it fix my problem? or just make my problem more obvious?

i used to have an 86 rolla hatch, and jvc 6" in the parcel shelf which was just a piece of plywood. is that what parcel shelf u have? or is it like a sedan style one?

if its the plywood style one just grab some new wood carpet it and pop ur 6x9's in it...hell u could even make boxes for them!

Make a New shelf and remove the Old one.. Expose as much of the Stock Hole as you can to the Speaker... Sticking the Magnet Through the hole as deep into the boot as possible

The Reason why you are getting no Bass is the Plastic Baffle is probably too tall and is acting like a small enclosure so the air Hits the Shelf and Bounces back..
cancelling out the next wave..
A New Shelf with the Magnet sitting in the Hole and made out of MDF will make sure the air has no place but to go into the Boot..

I went through the Same problems as you had with my 87 Astra Sedan the New Shelf fixed the Bass and Mid bass problem and they sounded sweet as..

Crackling at High Volume Could be the Air Hitting the Cone and Causing Over Excursion..
or the VC is Blown.. Which then it is time for a new Set..
Get the New Shelf done.. then see if that doesnt Improve things

i built a new parcel shelf...made a huge difference....but they still crackle at times....but i refuse to believe theyre blown...because theyre only a few days old, not amped, and have never been turned up loud...or even mildly loud

Dude i used to have a KE70 too.. that was my first car..

What i did with the shelf was get a piece of 10mm MDF and cut it to the size of the old shelf and make it fit.. Spreay it black if your a tight *** or spend $30 on black carpet.. i did this with my pioneer 6x9s and it had mad mid bass.. looked real good to for a $60 self and two hours work..:P

Goodluck..
