Hey guys,

Got some cash together finally for some subs for my VR-X. I think I'm going with 2 Rockford Fosgate P2 12"'s. I can get 2 of them for arund $450, which is pretty good considering I'm on a tight budget.

Getting a cabinet maker friend to put together a ported enclosure for me if i go ahead with those subs. However, I'm currently unsure on what amp to get. As i said im on a tight budget and prolly cant fork out much at all for one, so i was thinking a Precision Response amp.

I'm not sure if i should get a 2 channel amp or a monoblock? The monoblock seems to be pretty good bang for buck. I'm still a newb when it comes to amplifiers though, and even though monoblocks are stated as 1 channel its possible to run 2 subs through them isn't it?

Was just wondering what you guys think of Precision Response amps in general as well.

Cheers,
Mikirus

yes it is possible to run 2 subs off the monoblock. can you tell us the impedence of those subs, ie are they single 4ohm/2ohm, dual 4ohm/2ohm. this will greatly effect your amp choice.

The response amp will be able to play them either way, but the amount off power that the amp produces depends on the subs.

Also, I am all for a single sub. If you get a single sub you can get a better sub, or better amp, and a decent single sub can easily go loud enough for normal listening (powered correctly), especially in a ported box. You will also save on boot space.

Having said that, it depends what your priorities are....Is the system just for you, or to show off a bit.

I know of an Oz Audio Matrix Elite going secondhand (barely used) that will knock your socks off with the reponse monoblock and a ported box (it may even come with a pro built ported box, im not to sure). I am just pissed that it only came up for sale a month after I got my sub. I would have baught it on the spot!

The Jaycar amps are awesome for their value and highly recommend them if you have a small budget. If you are running 2 subs you won't be able to use the 2 channel amp.

Although the monoblock is 1 channel it has 2 outputs for the speakers. Allowing you to run 2 subs off it. I currently use the monoblock amp running 2 mtx subs off it and it goes pretty hard. Deffinatly worth every cent.

The Rockford Fosgate are 4 ohms.

I know what you mean about only having 1 subwoofer. Personally, I'm going for sound quality before anything else, but i wanna do a nice install in the boot as well, which is why i chose 2 subwoofers.

Altera what are those MTX subs like? I'm interested in them as well but i havent heard em pump yet. A mate of mine is crazy over them and recknos i should check em out.

So a monoblock response amp will be suitable for either one sub or two? Because ill order one through ebay straight away. I get my P's in two weeks and wanna have it in before then, sick of mucking around with it.

The MTX subs are great. I have the Thunder 5512 rated at 300wrms and they havent let me down yet. I dont know how they would suit an SQ setup but for SPL they do the job very well.

The jaycar monoblock will suit 1 or 2 subs fine. 400rms at 4ohms, 700rms at 2ohms and 810rms at 1ohm.

For SQ I would definately recommend the Oz Audio. Do a search on the CAA forums and see what those guys think of them. Some top SQ cars are using them. Also look at the IDQ. Wont be as loud but sounds very nice.

Nice installs can be done with 1 sub (I would like to think that mine looks nice). I do agree that 2 subs looks good though.

I dont care what people say, 2 mediocre subs will play more bass than 1 good sub. Might not be as loud, but you'll definitly get more OOMMMPPFFFF.

I am confused. What is OOOMPFFF if it isnt 'louder'. 2 subs certainly wont play any lower than 1. louder is really the only thing that you will get.

When i say louder i mean increase in volume. It's hard to explain. Two subs will push more air than 1, its simple area maths. What im trying to say is you will feel more bass, but volume wise it may not be as loud. Totally depends on the gap between pov subs and good subs. Basically i'd rather run 2 $200 subs than 1 $400 sub.

each to there own I guess, but that Oz Audio was louder than any 2 (mediocre) sub systems that I have ever heard and that was only getting 500WRMS. and 'feeling it' wasnt a problem. It shook the crap out of everything. forget using the rearview mirror with that thing, it kept dropping down.

This is just my opinion though.

but the bass will sound liek shyt..

The OZ Ausio subs are great from what i've heard and you want some "omph" have a look at the treo range, i've heard a pair of 10"s and they blew me away, apparently are solid as a rock too.

Its funny when people say they would have 2x 12's, they must not have heard of the mighty Boston G5 :bowrofl:

It all depends on taste, more surface area will get you loud but so will a better sub. The G5 has but many subs to shame, sure it may not have the sheer surface area as 2x 15inch Sony subs but with 3inch excursion and 600WRMS it holds it own SPL wise. :D We wont mention SQ though.......

Jaycar monoblocks are funny, half are good half are bad... watch out for the whine. :D
