howdy,
one of my standard eclipse speakers decided to take a dump a while ago so i need a replacement set. Now because of the boot spring bars just below the speakers you need something that will clear them, normal 6x9's won't fit:cry:
What have other owners replaced their speakers with?

Replaced mine with a newer set of Eclipse point-source series 6x9s (not sure if this years model will fit though). I'll post back later with the exact model number - have the box in the garage still.

I just put some JBL's in mine and they do not clear the bar, but i've pushed the bar aside and it fits in nice and snug, dunno if its effecting the speaker at all but they sound ok.

im pretty happy the JBL's scored 83 i think out of 100, considering they are only $130 man you cant go wrong.
they are a pretty small speaker aswell, same as leigh's

I had the same problem when I put my stereo in a few months ago. I listened to a lot of speakers and the ones I chose wouldn't fit with those bars there. Luckily my dad knew the guys at the shop and I hung around a bit while they were working so they unpacked a couple of different speakers to see which ones would fit.
I ended up with the JL Audio TR series 6x9's in the article above. They were the only ones they didn't have hooked up on display so they had to put them in to listen to them. They were really nice. Very clean sound with no boomy distorted bass and no shrill ear piercing highs. Pretty well balanced I think. They costed a bit more than the ones I'd originally chosen but they sounded better and most of all, they fit.
I really wanted to put them in the factory spot too. I went the custom parcel shelf in my last car. And custom kick panels for the tweeters. Ended up having to leave the whole stereo in there when I sold it so it wouldn't have holes everywhere. I still miss that stezza. It pumped.
*sigh*
Good luck.

I put in New 6x9s yesterday and I made my own spacers, and the cover wouldnt go on, so I grounded down ALOT of the inside of the covers n they still press against the speaker hull

what is with this place and it being against, reviving old threads. i dont see the harm. sometimes i dont find its necessary to start a whole new thread.

You could just leave it empty, I know the G5 almost destroyed the crap things I had in the there that wasn't hooked up.
Sounded heaps better with no rears. I would just stick speakers in the rear doors :bowrofl:

The OTHER solution to this problem is to track down a TH Sport at a wreckers, They have the boot torsion bars reshaped so that they fit around the magnets of the speakers. Why only the TH I don't know but I have the bars off one in mine and the bend waaay clears the Pioneers in my shelf wheras the standard bar was bang up on the magnets. You can see the shape in this pic:
