car is a magna tf., would it be possible to install 6 or 6'5 splits in the back rather then the 6 by 9's, cause at the moment, the sound quailty from my splits are much better then the 6 by 9's
i have silver cone 6'5 splits in the front, and blue 3 ways, 6by9's in the back

The 6x9's are actually moulded into the parcel shelf. The only way i can see you fitting any speakers other than 6x9's is to cut the parcel shelf (illegal) or make some 6x9 to 6" raisers and the magnet should be able to fit. The only problem with this is that the speakers will sit higher than normal and you'll lose the stock speaker grilles. But if you make the raiser look decent and colour code, no one might even notice.

I have to Object..
Yes it is Possible to Install Speakers other then 6x9.s
You need to make a New Template from MDF..
You make it the Same Size as the 6x9, Possibly a little Wider and Cut New Round Holes and mount the New Speakers into this..
Saying you have Silver Speakers and Blue 6x9's is like Saying you own a Red or a Blue Car..
The Diffference between a Mini and a Ferrari is not just the Color..
I would Suggest we Get some Brand Names and Model Numbers to Further assist you..
For the 6x9's , Open the Boot , Stick your Head under it and read what it says on the Magnet...
The Best Possible Speaker solution for a Magna 3rd Gen is 6.5 inch Splits up Front and 2-way 6x9's down the Back ( Even if you run a Sub this format is still perfectly OK to run. Unless you want an SQ System and want to ditch the rears altogether)..
I would Suggest We look at Speaker choice rather then Speaker size in this instance as I am more then Sure we can come up with a Speaker Combo to suite your Budget and Tastes...
What Deck are you running Currently??

I've got 6" woofers in the back of mine, also cut a hole in the cardboard? stuff of the material shelf and put tweaters in. I had to drill a couple of holes in the existing 6x9 bracket as the screw holes didn't line up but apart from that it was easy enough and they fit quite snugly with the stock grills...

Yeah I've done it - see Pic. Process was to remove rear shelf and apply several coats oil based paint to the underside (anything oil based will do - I used some Hammertone I had lying around). This soaks in and stiffens the whole shelf when it dries.
Then some standard black MDF 6.5" speaker spacers (from Autobarn) topped by a pair of plastic Jaycar sloped spacers - bolt in hard and then fit the speakers - in my case a set of cheap Pioneer 6" 160W 2-ways. The speaker basically then sits proud of the shelf but I did cut holes the same as the magnet in the shelf anyway, just to allow for angles etc, and to pass wiring through.
Jaycar sloped spacer: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AX3580&CATID=&keywords=spacer&SPECIAL=&form=KEYWORD&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=
then wire them off the harness going to your 6X9s in conjunction with a pair of bass blockers. Bass Blockers you get from Ebay:

Lastly I fitted the underside of the shelf with 1 inch foam and then a layer of carpet underlay - cut around all the shapes of the speaker holes and belt holes etc, and then glue both to the shelf. When cutting, keep the foam away from the edges - just cut to fit into the pressed shape of the shelf as such, and do it such that there's a couple of inches in the very middle with just underlay, not foam, as this matches a 'hump' in the metal pressing of the car body. Anyway this stops any possibility of humming or thumping coming from the shelf as such.
Refit all and voila! Nice full range sound for the rear seats and still plenty of thump from your 6X9s!

alrighty, my fronts are the silver cone pioneer splits( the ones before the yellows), they have 70 rws rating they cost me 300$, and the 6by9's are 80 rws, they are the blue, 3 ways, and they cost 120$ at the time of purchase,
deck i'm running, is a jvc, but i can't remeber the exact model, but the price was 240$ if that helps

lol at "bass blockers" they are just a 10 cent resistor from **** smith. Used to filter out frequencies below say 60hz. Although with a 2 way you won't need them (this is assuming youve got a sub) As they won't be providing enough bass to make it an issue.
Only an issue when your running 6x9 3 ways as well as a sub.
