well im swapping an auto box from a tn station wagon into a tn sedan for a friend seeing as ive got a spare here and his is rooted.

god dammit the lower ball joints are a royal pain. anyone got any handy hints or tips how to get em off and i did do what the manual told me but no mater how much i tap em they stiil wont come . driving me nuts i'll end up smashing it soon so i guess it's time for a coffe break

WELL OK THEN. seeing as noone wanted to reply i gave it a few more goes but couldnt get it out . but i worked around it(took out suspenion and took brakes off ) so now the hub can lay flat stud side down. also which enables me to get the drive shaft out of the hub. but this is where im stuck again cant get the bloody driveshaft out of the auto tranny. the manual tells me to get a lever and put it between the tranny housing and the joint then just lever it out. now at first it looked to be coming but on closer inpection it looks like what im levering is just bending back (on the drivshaft that is) .i dont want to break the box cos i need it for the swap but dont care about anything else. just want to get the bloody drive shafts out so i can bring the box down. it just dosent want to do anything easy today.

ok got a bit further. got the driver side shaft out , that was really easy . but with the other side , now the manual says left and right side not drivers, passenger side so i was doing it the wrong way around, but i still cant get the shaft out of the relay bracket. god must hate me today

well i finally got em. bit of elbow grease and luck and skinned knuckels helped

we were all at a cruz thats why no answer

lower ball joint I made a post (tech torque) search cv joint removal
on how to remove the cv joint read that
yes undo the two bolts on the front shock is one way
hitting the steering knuckle so the taper releases is the other

did you miss - the two bolts on the block that hold the smaller CV interim shaft
if thats the bit you are trying to undo - you need a torch ?

just one of them days. yep i hit the steering knuckle for about an hour. but just decided to do it the other way. got the relay shaft and drive shafts out. oh and i did use a torch but its got in some places 2 inchs deep ( no s hit) of grease and dirt almost like its never been cleaned.
anyway its all pretty good now.

just one thing, am i the only one who finds it hard taking out the bolts that go through the drive plate and converter. the 14mm ones that have a star pattern cut into then ( in the tranny).
the gf got roped in to help turn the engine back and forth so i can atleast turn the friggin bolt like 1/4 turn at a time. 20 mins later and it still going also the gf's arm is killing her so i couldn't keep going till they were both out. maybe im just doing it the hard way. but i could only manage was getting a flat spanner down there. even took of the crossmember in hope to get enough room for the socket but no hope there.

anyway once ive get those bolts out of the drive plate i can then unbolt it from the engine and drop it down. oh and i made like a wooden platform for the jack so it shouldn't drop off.
thanks again for the feedback buffy:D wondered why it was so quiet on here today forgot u guys were on a cruise.

OK i got those drive plate/ conveter bolts out. they were 17mm not 14 and there 3 of em.
now the manual tells me to push the converter back into the housing. but how?? apart from the bolt holes there no where to put my fingers in so i can push it back. i just dont want to damage the converter seeing as its the whole reason for taking out the box.

do i need to do what it states in the manual or can i just unbolt the tranny from the motor and lower the tranny down?

one more thought when i sawp the gear box will it run alright.
what i mean is the gearboxes are both tn but the ****ty one in the seadn is getting dumped out and being replaced buy the station wagons one, so do i need to swap the trans computer aswell?? only asking cos i was reading information about the gearboxes and there numbered the same except one of them has a 1 (can't remember which) on the end of its number and the other has a 2 at the end of it number.
