for those that i haven't spoken to recently I sold the vr-x a couple of months ago and bought an awd model recently, :P .
Last week I had hotbits street spec coilovers installed - they are awesome! (thanks shaun at phillcom rally) A little bit bouncy at first but they are settling in now. I had to do it on a whim because hotibits had never tried them on an awd model, but they fitted up fine.
A bit of a rattle from the passenger front coilover, but i'll try to get that sorted next week - anybody else with coilovers have any rattles?? It's given me the lowering bug too btw, i think i'm going to go make it lower ....lol .
If you look closely at the attached pic you'll see a set of brembo's on the rear - the full set went in (thanks cummins for the brakes), only to find the front caliper poking out about 40mm through the existing wheel spokes. So after trial fitting a series of new wheels from the nearest wheel shop and having none of the those fit, my mechanic put the original awd front brakes back on temporarily.
My question is to anybody that knows about evo wheel clearances, please post up, i can't find any clearance templates, or much information about it at all really. Tomorrow i'll call enkei to confirm clearances of their RP03 wheel, which looks as though it may fit.
thanks
john

go lower :P
thats gonna look like such a sleeper!! should ditch the AWD badges and stickers, and just slap a sprintex blower on it.... would certainly get people thinking at the traffic light grand prix!
(oh and then race them thru the hills) :D

wow!
nice work.... are you sure you're going to be able to drop it much lower? just cause of the TJ awd suspension bits getting in the way.....?
oh and the sport spec coilovers would've been able to reduce that bouncyness just by clicking a knob....... fyi

Congrats on the new ride Johnny!!!
I got sport spec coilovers fitted a few months ago now (Anthony's big sale before he sold phillcom prompted me to jump in earlier than I had originally planned to :D ). When they were fitted - the fitters mentioned that the fronts were rattling around abit, but then they took it to tyre bloke who specialises in track applications for the wheel alignment, and he apparently fixed it (with the use of some stategically placed washers if I remember correctly). So maybe Hotbits need to look at the fittings they supply, but all in all one of the best mods I've ever done!!! (just a shame the don't wind down as far as the street ones)
i get the sort of hard rattle sounds if i hit a big bump or port hole, but thats about it.

i found this problem when i originally fitted mine.. yes washers are needed. Anthony reckoned he was going to tell Hotbits to fix the problem, obviously they haven't
Basically pull off the top nut and place a thick washer on it then do it up.... Should have no problems then

Ahhh so it's the Top nut that needs a washer??!!
I just assumed it would have been down at the wheel end that was the problem, since it was the guy who did the wheel alignment for my car that managed to fix it.

well the problem i found was with the top nut, yeah... when it is done up tight as possible there is still play in it.. hence the knocking sound you hear over bumps etc...

if you go to a 35mm offset you have plenty of room and yes the RP03 should fit fine

thanks for the advice with the rattle, i'll put a washer on tomorrow and see how it goes. the mechanic who put it in also said he put some shims in the rear, apparently he spoke to hotbits, and they said the shims (read: washers:) ) were supposed to come in the kit .....
the ride is pretty good, slightly worse than just lowered springs, but they feel completely different - much more responsive.

?don't know, at the moment there is no rubbing at the back, so i guess it could still go a bit lower.

hotbits probably now supply washers with the kit and your mechanic misunderstood and put them in the rear instead of the front... because i dont recall needing washers in the rear...

the rears definately needed 'shims', as i took it for a drive when the c/o's were first put in and the rear suspension sounded like it was about to fall out  .

Thought I might bring this thread back up rather than start another.
I have just fitted some sport spec coilovers and im getting that rattle at the front. How big is the washer that people have fitted to the top of the front struts? And can i put this washer on without taking the whole coilover out?
