Hi all..
read in the sunday times the the 4cyl 2nd gens have a timing chain...

does that mean the 2.4L 4cyl in the 3rd gen has a timing chain too.. or do i have a timing belt????

it's stressing me out cause i'm at 145000kms and don't know if i need to change the timing belt or leave it if it's a timing chain...

your knowledge would be much appreciated

Found this on google, someone was selling a timing belt for a 4 cyl TE/TF. So i'm guessing its a belt :).

The only way to check would be to check the service manual, and if it had a stamp to call up that mechanic and ask what was done on it. You can always inspect the belt or get a mechanic to if you're not sure. I dunno about the 4 cylinders, but the v6's belt is just to the left of the engine and easy to check. Just check to see if it's fraying etc. You can usually see if its old or not. I would say it would have to have been done by now, cutting it really close if it hasn't.

If it was done by a mechanic they put a silver metallic sticker on the front brace in front of the radiator with the date and KM that the belt was changed. I have one on mine.

there r 2 belts - timing and balance shaft drive belt

Replaced the belts on my car at 100Ks. Cost of part about $215 plus labour $150.

Worthwhile investment for peace of mind - a broken belt will cause $Ks of damage to a motor

lol @ KB.
Yeh i'd replace them anyway for piece of mind, or at least ask a mechanic what he thinks of the condition of the belt. Make sure its reputable mechanic though, a dodgy one could just say its ready to be replaced when in fact its still new.
