i have been thinking of ways to enhance my ts interior. at the moment it is basically all dark charcoal/grey/black with a chrome kenwood head unit. i like the look of the chrome/brushed aluminimum/steel and have had a few ideas so far. i like the idea of brushed aluminimum or similar door sills, some sort of steel/aluminimum racing pedals, a new black gear boot, some sort of new gear knob and then further on possibly upgraded dash pieces and dials. i should add im going for a more understated look that is mainly dark with steel pieces as stated above, so that rules out things that look "ricey" or over the top. if anyone has done any of these mods or know of any products out there that match my description please reply with photos.

thanks

its very easy to paint the interior yourself, theres the PDF available for download which shows you how to dismantle the parts of your interior
Ive also got the white gauges, im to poor for a new steering wheel or pedal covers:P

you can get a brushed aluminium kit from....from some place.....but it was like over $200 pffff stuff that

anyway heres my attempt

I've installed white LEDs in the cluster, looks much better, and if you have installed white headlight bulbs (ie. blue-white) they really help maintain a consistency for your eyes when driving at night (ie. not going from looking at blue-white headlights to yellow-white dials and back).
I got mine from ebay, from a certain supplier in Hong Kong, best value I could find. Don't know if we're allowed to recommend specific sellers in the forums, just search for "T5 LED" and T10 LED", you'll soon find the one I mean. You'll need 2x T5, 4x T10.

You might want to investigate wreckers, see how much they charge for the bits you are planning on spraying(?), that way you can work on those pieces, still drive around in the meantime, and if you stuff up then no harm done.

There are brushed aluminium cluster bezels on ebay.com (US one), but the thing I noticed is that they have an additional hole for the odometer reset, whereas ours are in the middle of the speedo. I asked them, and they won't make a changed version. Search for "diamante bezel", or something like that.

RoGuE_StreaK just been on ebay i dont know if these photos work but are these the ones u are talking about? also have you done the lights behind the a/c panel and under the cigarette lighter?

Yep, those are the ones. Just make sure you get a "wide angle" beam, most LEDs have quite narrow beams, as a general rule look for flat or inverted heads.
My T10s are the 4LED flat-headed type, T5s are the exact ones you have pictured there. The T5s are a little too big to fit like they are supposed to, but they fit in enough to work and to stay in.

I've currently used red "condoms" (aka "silicon light sleeves") over my center console lights, including the clock, but can't access the aircon cluster without pulling the whole lot apart from the looks of it. Some of these lights are T5, but most others aren't, not sure what their type is, they have extended leads which wrap around the base. I'm looking at possibly making my own red LED replacements, just a bit of a b!#*h to get the resistor incorporated. There may be all-in-one 12V LEDs out there, I've got a flashing one somewhere so I'm sure the static ones must exist.

I'm intending doing a "howto" thread when I get organised and get decent enough photos.

Hope that helps.

Is this that full repair manual or is there a pdf download I've missed?

this may sound stupid but in my ts theres a LED in the ashtray in the centre console, i was wondering if theres any chance it would have enough power going through it to run 4 12" neons. i was thinking as its central to everything it would have to be the best place to mount the switch. if it isnt strong enough where would the next best power supply be and whats the best way to wire it up with a switch.

Puck - i used the online PDF that JELLMAG uploaded, or the workshop manual, the gregorys will also show you how, but it isn't as "in depth"

ts 3.0 - Im running 4 12" neons off my boot light with no hassles, im guessing this would be the same thing? you should be fine dood, they draw very little current

usually one has a white line through it....thats negative, or, just wire one up and try your luck :)

50/50 chance, and they dont blow so nothing to loose

speaking of t10 LED's earlier, are these the same as the parker lights in the front? also does anyone know what kinda bulbs are in the interior light and the number pltelights, if anyone knows thatd be great

thanks

Some parkers are T10, some are BA9S. You'll have to check yours to find out. My TS ones were T10, my diamante (KS) ones are BA9S.

Interior festoons are 31mm. I got 6LED white ones from the same supplier, quite good brightness.

Dunno about numberplate lights, those and reverse are my next lights to look at.

All 2nd gen magna parkers are the T10, except the KS "parras" which are yes, the BA9S......so if you got parras you got a different more difficult bulb to find:)

i got some LED festoon one, with 3 LED's in them and i gotta say they suck.....especially for the map lights......i mean they really sucked.......i just put the normal globe back in it was 5x as bright

RoGuE_StreaK

Just remembered, my festoons are actually 9LED, not 6LED. They're a 3x3 square grid, and stick out a fair bit, so some angles hit against the diffuser (ie. the plastic cover), but generally they're quite good. Just angle them to get the majority of the light pointing where you want it, then when the cover goes on it diffuses the light quite a bit, so it's not as directional.

Probably a little less light than a standard incandescent, but fairly close; I had both in for quite a while, LED in front, incandescent in back (wagon), so could see them pretty much side-by-side.

I've got a few high-intensity 10mm white LEDs lying around, so might replace my footwell T10s at some stage. Oh yeah, for those that don't have a passenger-side footwell light (my exec didn't), find a wrecker, it'll take you about 5mins and $2 for the wire and holder that plug right in to a ready'n'waiting socket. A lot of the "higher-end" stuff is simply plug'n'play! Might fit the glovebox light next, if I can get the switch unscrewed...

PS. Anyone know if the map-light wiring exists in the execs? I have a map-light, but don't want to cut the lining if the wiring isn't there...

:stoopid:

from memory i think you hook into the circuit of the middle lights but yeah i would like to know too, not keen to **** up my hood lining but ill have a go in the hols.
rogue streak did you put in verada centre roof lights??? and is there meant to be plugs for the front lights?? or hooks up straight to solder?>

I've just got my standard TS centre and rear lights. Didn't see anything special about any others to justify a change?

From what I saw when removing the map light from a wreck, it uses one spade-type connector for positive, and the screws/metal bracket for earth. I think. So I want to know if this spade connector is sitting there ready and waiting, or if you need to add/modify wiring.

ok sounds good i'll do that, one thing, how do you figure out which is positive and which is negative?

do you have a volt meter by any chance, if you do check voltage drop between the 2 wires out the back of the ash tray light, if you get a positive number than the red prong is on the positive, if you get a negative number than its on the negative. or you can find a 12v (or higher) light and attach 2 wires to it one on its positive, one on its negative, then attach the negative one to a metal part on the car (like chasis under ash tray, not the plastic thing, under that) and attach the other to one of the wires on the ash tray light, if the light in you put in the circuit lights up then the wire u attached it to is positive, if it didnt light up then its negative..

Now just incase that wasnt clear or you dont know what i mean i'll go looking for my workshop manual just to tell you the colour

Black is negative,
Green with White stripe is positive

sigh...

Not the best piccies, but you (may) get the idea. Also festoon pic, and my red ignition barrel light. This and my forthcoming red door key lights will also be hooked up as flashing warners for my custom alarm, which I'm in the middle of coding.

PS. And it's roGUe, not roUGe - I do not have a red streak! :D

TuffTR this is ho i put my neons up under the footwells, looks better with them hidden and making a glow rather than having them seen, RoGuE i have a ring around my ignition but as far as i can tell its blown, do you know what type of LED it is and also how did you make yours red, did you use a red "condom" for it?

thanks

i prefer hiding neons to, but i am planning to make an enclosure for the foot wells so that it shines down, and im also planning to make encolsures for the doors aswell and rear foot wells, and boot, i was also thinking of the roof but might just colour the clear plastic and use LED's, i never use interior lights to read, so its purely for looks :D

you have alot of plans don't cha:P

ts 3.0, thats a pretty good idea, do they jiggle around alot? thats all i was worried about.....that looks pretty good, ill probably do that too, did you hook yours up to the door trigger or just an ON/OFF switch?

09-06-2006, 01:22 PM
damn straight i have a lot of plans, lets see:

bodykit,
colour code interior,
6g72 DOHC NA/TT,
17" CSA dominators,
diamante grille and lights,
ks tail lights,
1 15" sub,
2 amps,
1 set 6x9" speakers,
1 (maybe 2) cadence 6.5" splits,
lowered,
strut brace,
sway bar,
heavy duty clutch,
metallic/pearl orange paint job,
neons,
and a few more that i cant think of atm.

BTW the boot should be rather simple to replace, if u take out your centre console its should be pretty straight forward

they dont jiggle at all zip ties are tight as, havent decided on what sorta switch im gunna use got them all plugged into a 4-way cigarette lighter socket and just plug it in when i want them on for now, was thinkin wire up a switch through the LED in ashtray in console and put the switch just before console bin lid

The gear boot is held on at the top with a zip tie from the factory, and at the bottom its stapled to a frame, which screws to the centre consol. I replaced mine before i sold it because it had a rip in it

RoGuE_StreaK

Replaced mine with a $2 one from Supercheap. Fits in well with the rest of the interior, and not bad quality.
First shot, underside, stretched the boot over the plastic (this was a bit of a *****, but got there), then punctured the screws through it. Fits suprisingly well.
Second shot, it has some velcro and a string tie at the top, so don't need to do anything special to fit it over the gear knob.
Third shot, interior scheme (dirt optional). Needs an update, some bits are wearing out.

Anyone know how much it would cust to re-upholster seats in leather? im guessing heaps, anyone know where decent leather seats can be bought, maybe out of a wrecked verada or something? id like a set of black ones. did the ks verada come in leather?

thanks

Retrim - $500 for fronts as a rough guesstimate

BEST BET would be to ring up as MANY wreckers as you can and find out if they have any KS veradas with leather, there aint many, but you never know your luck

Not much of a mod but here is my in car shaver/lighter.
You can light ciggarettes by placing it in the small hole at the front and 3 seconds later, its lit! :D

Suits the woodgrain too :bowrofl:

on page one, i saw the door trim with 6' speakers on the bottom of the door and tweeters neat the handle, how hard is this to do/ i have 4" alpines, i tried to fit them in the factory holes in the dash, but they don't fit, i want to put some in the doors, just wondering how easy it is. thanx...dazza :)

12-06-2006, 12:47 PM
hey if you have 4 inch speakers they should fit into the door no worries just have to take out map pocket if you have one and find where the factory hole is cut in the metal then cut out a 4" hole in the door card. i did this with a set of cheap 5" jbl speakers as they are a perfect fit and dont require modifying. below is a pic of mine, yours should come out the same but of course in a 4" speaker

if you screw the speaker straight to the metal frame u can fit a 6.5" cadence us-6k woofer, very tight fit though, stronger than the door trim though will try and post a pic if i can find my camera.

Hmmm, after stuffing around for several hours, I eventually discovered that the stock 5mm 12V red LEDs from Jaycar are crap for light output, so I went back to the sleeved incandescents. Looks lie I'll have to make up my own high-intensity LEDs + resistors ('cause the sleeved incandescents are a bit too dull as well, and the sleeves are slightly orange).

Also, for some unkown reason, the existing socket for the barrel light does not seem to supply a voltage, no matter what I tried, so have stuck with my jury-rigged power from the footwell light.
Maybe it's just mine? Would seem to be strange to have a fuse dedicated to this one thing, as all other lights etc work, so a blown fuse would appear to be ruled out. Just weird that the socket, with wires matching the barrel light, does not seem to do what one would assume it does. Unless the other end isn't connected somewhere...

yeah youve got to get super bright leds and run them with resistors. i did what you thinking of with my xbox ill take a pic when i get home. tell me how many leds you want and ill tell you how to wire them up and the resistors youll need. cause im studying electronics engineering

for the people that dont have the illumated ring around their ignition barrell do you have a clear plastic ring around it or not because i do and arent sure if i have a light in there and its blown or they just come standard. i have a ts sports and has a few high end features but im not sure if thats one of them. also anyone know what kinda bulb the ignition barrell light takes and also anyone changed the lighter socket bulb?

RoGuE_StreaK
16-06-2006, 05:40 PM
The standard ring is black plastic. I'm guessing you've either got a blown bulb, or it only operates in certain circumstances that I don't know about;- I had figured that the existing socket should provide power when a door was open, but nothing I did, such as key in, Acc On, etc., got power out of it.

Both bulbs are T5 if I recall.
Most of the rest of the central cluster are kinda like T5, but with longer wire leads that wrap around the base of the socket. I am yet to determine what these bulbs are called, as I haven't seen them in any auto stores, and haven't come up with anything from online searching. Photos maybe tomorrow. I have some on my laptop, but it's downstairs, and I can't be @#$%ed going down and booting it up :drama:
