My car has developed this anoying whistling noise when i am reversing the car. normally comes when car is parked with hand break on for longer periods of time e.g. like 30 minutes or so. now this noise have started even some times during the normal driving when I apply break and drive slow. and its killing me.

I remember when I first took my car for servicing at Performance auto to Rihno @ 45000k service he fixed it while adjusting the hand break seems like something was a bit stuck.

noise was gone for a good and just came back at around 62000k's.

Steve tried to fix it but the noise is still there, infact it has gone bad (not steve's fault).

I ma not sure how to get rid of it. should i take the rear tyres off and take out that little rubber stopper and spray WD40 in the hole so if there is any rust in there should be gone or something else.

need assistance.

Thanks,

Magnette

Squeek comes from handbrake drums, shoes haven't retracted fully.

Sometimes can be 'fixed' by pulling handbrake slightly when moving slowly.

umm... DO NOT spray oil onto your brakes unless you've got a SUICIDE DEATH WISH?!?

I get squeaky noises from my brakes in reverse due to a build up of dust. I clean em every 2500k or so. In the short term i just braked hard now and then, and it went away for a while.
The best bet however - go to your local carlovers or such a place and (with plain water, not degreaser, or hot soap or anything) pressure clean the inside of your wheels as much as possible.
As said dont put oil on your brakes. If you really want to know what this does and you have a bicycle, next time you are close to replacing your brakes on it, oil the rims and try to stop them :D. P.S. you will have to wash your rims really well after to remove the oil ^_^

BE AWARE! Your brakes will be very wet (just like when its raining real heavy). Brake a few times before you leave the cleaning place, and the first few corners, brake in advance of what you normally would.
Doesnt take many stops to dry them out, so dont get carried away with it lol.

It could be your handbrake is too tight (just), but generally they work themselves looser, not tighter.

edit: oh, the reason it (sometimes) doesnt happen in forward motion is the way the dust builds up. Generally (sorry, yes, im generalising again. twice in one post) a car spends more time going forward than backward, so when you do actually go backwards, the dust can dislodge and start rubbing between the disc and the pad.

Thanks guys,

one thing to clear things up is its not the dust between brakepads and discs andno i am not gona use oil between them.

its dust in the drums which controls the hand brake function only. hand break it self seems fine, 4-5 clicks and it stops. and to reach those drums or adjust the hand break from tyres, you have to take out a little rubber stopper and then use a flatbed screw driver to adjust it.
so somehting in there is jammed.
