I'm one of the old-skool, if the powersteering needs a topup I just grab some ATF.

But when I picked up my bottle of Castrol TQ-M and bothered reading the label lol
says its "unsuitable for use in Mitsubishi power steering".

So what do you folks fill your powersteering reservoirs with?

look in your car manual and it will tell you what type to use or just go to mits and get some.

Just go to Mitsi, I bought some last week and it was $8 for a litre. Apparently the power steering is pretty fussy about having mixed fluid types.

In my TR i put some shell power steering fluid in and it worked fine, dunno if the 3rd gen would make a difference?

We just use regular ATF at our Mitsi dealer

go down to super cheap or wherever and they usually have castrol and valvoline books there, just have a read of the book, find your car, and it tells you what it needs.

im pretty sure it should be using something like castrol 501 which has a red cap....black body and a green label......one of the most common types around.

hehe, that bottle of TQ-M has been sitting around since my 1st gen (since new) days.

Have used it to top up several Mitsu reservoirs (Magnas & Lancer), no probs last 20 yrs.

Just haven't properly read the fineprint until last weekend...

The power steering system o-rings are made from a differnt product to the one in the auto tranny. That is why Mitsi have different power steer and auto tranny fluids.
