Well, i thought my starter motor just died.

The Story:
Went to start the magna but didn't give it enough time and it died, after a few other ignition problems where fixed, i found that the starter motors main shaft would no longer retract, it was loose and free moving. Like when i would corner to the left, it would just slide in and give that nasty sound, like trying to start when already running.

well, i decided to pull out the starter motor this afternoon, and found that the "lever" (as stated in gregory's" was partly broken, the top O rings where the shaft connects was partly broken, one half was missing.

so i found that if you turn the lever around and adjust the seal that is connected to the lever so that it is also facing the right direction, once this is done it will work again ! considering that i was quoted $300 for the same job i think that this is quite a good solution, although it may only be temperary, it seems to work nicely.

so let me know if this is common problem and/or if you have done something else like this.

Cheers

do what i did and throw it out and go to your local wreakers and get another one costed me $30 and a hole weekend to get it out cause who ever did put the last one it did it all up to tight.

and i got 3 months warranty but in the end stilll way cheaper then a recon 1 as my car has now had 4 starter motors, 1 original, 1 brand new 1 recon and now 1 second hand, with only 122, 000km on the clock  i think they have a problem with starter motors :bowrofl:

anyway in the mean time u could open up the old starter motor and do a recon on that and sell it :D

well here is a bit of an update

was just on the way to my sisters in whittlesea, and the mofo got locked in place, IE, in mesh so outcame the RACV and there towtruck.

after getting home and pulling out the POS i found several other problems with the starter.

BOSCH, the cheap ****s used plasted gearing, the ****ers, and it happens to be in 3 differenct pieces, I think the whole thing is ready to be thrown in the fire.

SO tomorrow down to the wreckers to get the new (to me) one. how ever this will give me a chance to try something, having the solinoid straight off the battery via a relay, thought this would give better starts with less voltage loss and so forth, ideas?

just make sure u can get some sort of warrant with the started motor, and take your old 1 with u cause last time i got a starter motor the prick gave me the wrong one and had to go back and swap it must have been for a second gen

well here it is the end of the story

after installing the starter motor at 9 this morning there was still a problem, more aggrevation and some time i have found an fixed the prolem.

main problem was the distributer cap and rotot, both of which were complete screwed and where probably the originals.

but at least the beast is purring again
