Gday all,

A few questions i would like your feedback on please...

1. Does anyone have a chip installed on their TR/TS? (I have a 4cyl auto)
What are they worth?
Where can i get one?
Benefits?
2. I have redback extractors through to a full 2.5" exhaust system. The 2.5" tip on the
exhaust looks tiny and doesn't fill the bumper space...so i was thinking a cannon.
(Ricey i know) but i think it would fill the space and look quite neat.
What cannon do you recommend and would it have an affect on the redback system
when taking the muffler out?
3. I was reading a similar thread on this before but thought id just put it into here to clarify. I just completed my
white gauges mod but the light is yellow. What are the globes at the top that shine onto
the cluster itself where paul (TUFFTR) put a 20cm neon? I wanna replace these 2 with
whiter/clearer ones to eliminate that yellow effect.

Thanks to any of you who can help or contribute feedback. I understand it mite be a bit tedious but this is valuable information for me.
Cheers, Josh

Sounds crap if u keep the silencer in...
but if u take it out it sounds sweet!!! except way over illegal levels

Serious? I've removed both resonators if thats what your talking about. I just want a nice burble but not too loud. The exhaust is good as it is but i want more noise but staying within legal limits.

i'm getting a cannon for my TR, i've payed for it and ordered it but it's taking a long time for autobarn to get more in. maybe i'll go over and see if they have any in yet today before i go home for the weekend.

hopefully it won't be TOO loud, but i don't think the cops are that strict around here, there seem to be a lot of loud cars getting around. the guy i live with has an old excel with no resonators and a TINY muffler (in other words, LOUD) and he's never had any trouble with the cops for it.

i think that the time i'm most likely to get any trouble over it would be in the first 10 minutes of rolling out of the shop after i install it.
i'm living in wodonga now, but i'll go home to corryong and install it there, seeing as how i have a whole mechanic shop at my disposal :D
anyway, the new cop there is an ******* and he'll probably chase me down as soon as he hears his first car with a non-stock muffler lol

With the dash lights my TS has 4 T10 lights and 2 t5 lights, I put blue covers over my yellow bulbs (avaliable at repco) which give a more white light, go for LED t5 lights with a whide dispersion. i find they work the best.
Good luck

Mate ur betta off gettin a louder muffler, with a bigger tip then goin n gettin a cannon. To many crappy ones that rust, and the proper mufflers flow betta (aka betta performance), as far as i noe!

Chips generally lean your car out and retart your timing to produce more HP at around 1000 mark, your better off running some premium fuel with some sort of CAI which costs 100dollars and would proberly produce better gains

thanks guys. im now thinking something like a supercat or x-force muffler as i dont really wanna sacrifice the performance of my exhaust system. Really only fill up the space in the rear bumper and produce more sound.

A cannon is the ultimate definition of 'straight-through', how could a box muffler outflow a cannon?

If you don't want a muffler to rust (any muffler will rust if its made from mild steel etc not just cannons - duh) get a stainless muffler, will cost probably a third to half as much again, depends on what you want, nothing will fill the gap like a big *** cannon but not everyone digs that look, look at magnaflow.com, they have a huge range of stainless mufflers and they sound tops, zenetti and XForce make stainless mufflers too (cannons and box) as well as your jap brands, trust, apexi (most of those are like $300 plus just fof the muffler)

right on....everyone reckons these would decrese performance but there is no bend anywhere in a cannon, duh!! and it fill sout the gap really nicely, i like em on the back, the magna is no commodore....and being japenese a cannon goes nicely

Retarding ignition timing will not increase power, unless its over-advanced to begin with. But, leaning the mixture will generally produce a little more power though.
Most piggybacks are used primarily for their fuel and ignition mapping. A decent piggyback starts at around the $600 mark going up, as Monga said, to around the $1k area; for around an 8-15kw gain on a near standard engine. Chips, on the other hand, will probably start at around the $300+ mark. They are not re-tunable the way that piggybacks are, and basically only advance the ignition timing a few degs and alter the fuel map for the upper rpm's. You'll be lucky to get a good 5kw from them.

With chips, you will notice a performance gain but will suffer mainly from higher fuel consumption and reliability issues as each chip is not 100% tailor-made to suit the car, whereas piggybacks/standalones are dyno tuned specifically for your car.

With piggybacks; generally, provided they are propperly tuned, you can get a good increase in linear power and retain, if not increase fuel economy, and still have a very reliable engine; but imo they're not worth the money without other major mods.

As Monga said, running some 98ron with advanced timing, a good intake (ie filter and CAI) and a decent set of plugs and you're looking at a fairly good gain there for a fraction of the cost. Probably the same gain if not better than a chip.

Just on plugs, what do you recommend? I have a CAI, K&N panel, extractors and 2.5" exhaust system. Also what difference would leads make along with the plugs? What is recommended for those as well?
Cheers
