hey guys i am currently running a very highly modded 2.6 efi 4g54 motor in my tr. high compression highly technical computer system and highly annoying problem. wait for it...

i am constantly snapping rotor buttons.

wen i race the car and redline first at 6500rpm then flat change to second the engine has so much torque it snaps the rotor (and turns the windscreen wipers on!! haha!!). its happened 3 times now. it just snaps the keyway out from inside it. wen i change at 5500 or even 6000 it doesnt happen but wen i push it that bit harder to get a better time it always breaks...

anyways question is: is there a rotor from a different engine that i can use coz these ones are ****e... wot bout the v6 one is it the same??? does the v6 even run a distributor?

any legitimate advice would be appreciated

It is definitly not a rotor button fault. You are blaming the result, not the cause here.

Definitly check the shaft play, bearings, and also take a good look at the distributor drive gear is that worn or has the pin holding it worn and allowed it to move backwards and forwarwd.

Also check correct distributor cap and is the cap itself moving.

Or do you have something brushing against the distributor cap at high power which is pushing that into the rotor.

Again the problem is in whatever is causing it to touch, not the button itself.

This has happened to my car once before also. and it was only about 4000kms after i replaced the rotor button so i don't think it was dodgy/brittle.

I also run a highly modified 4g54; K&N panel filter, CAI, slightly worn timing chain, weeping head gasket, worn/leaking cam seal.:D

Hasn't happened again though. So.....yeh......

hey man have you thought about going for coil packs? i don't know if its been done b4 but would solve your prob and provide more reliable/stronger spark, something to think about, don't know what to do bout wipers though

My galant with twin webers, whopping great big camshaft and modified internals used to reve to 8500 during the burnout and we changed gears at 8000 rpm:bowrofl:
