it doesnt matter what kinda fuel you use, theres alwayse gonna be build up, but yeh there are injector cleaning addatives you can get, cant think of em off the top of my head, id just get the douche bags at the mechanics to do it, cos then they'll do a proper good job of it and it wont bother you for another 60000km's

Hi Mathias
I agree with you that $280 is a lot of money that could be much better spent.
A lot of that is labour in removing and refitting the plenum, because it covers the rear 3 injectors.
I have the same engine/transmission and first thing I did was to fit a mixture display. You can notice by the erratic nature of the movement of the LEDs if you have a fuel delivey problem. Also it gives you a visual check of the oxygen sensor as you drive, and when entering lean cruise mode, etc. Around $16 as a build - it - yourself kit
I used one bottle of fuel injection cleaner, and then 3 tankfuls of Caltex 95 and I could feel & see the difference on the display.
I took the front 3 injectors out and handed them to my local mechanic, he came back saying they were all spraying a good pattern, and didn't require any servicing
If, after the fuel is ok and you're still lacking power, consider fitting a cold air intake, hi flow air filter, fuel rail kit or ground tuning kit in that order
Cheers, Barry

use a higher octaine fuel like optimax
this will clean injectors
all workshops try to sell injector cleans its calles up selling
imo a injector clean at 100000 is a good idea not at 60000
where i work the dogy buggers try to sell injector cleans at 15000  and people are silly enough to pay it.
unleaded fuel is crap it causes problems like carbon build up
and also the fuel filter blocks up in about 20000km
the higher octain fuels the filter will last 50000 to 100000km with out a problem

$280 wowsers.. thats enormous. I do my own throttle body cleans regularly now. Quick and easy. Here's what i do.
1. Acquire $10 can of Nulon Throttle Body/Carby Cleaner (Any brand, but nulon I recommend)
2. With engine off, Take off intake tube to throttle body, (I had to take tubing off air cleaner box too for room for can).
3. Open throttle fully (or have someone inside with the foot flat on accelerator)
4. Spray in throttle body at all directions possible, aiming deep in and at any dirt/grease etc for about 30-60 seconds MAX so you dont get an excessive amount of cleaner in throttle body (this will cause engine to take ages to start).
5. Re-attach intake tubing and start car. The car will run choppy and black smoke will run out exhaust until the cleaner has run through the injectors, this is normal, it disappears quickly and car smoothens up.
6. Turn Engine off when idle is smooth again.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 until throttle body appears completely clean and no dirty cleaner comes trickeling out of throttle body.
8. Re-attach intake tubing, making sure its done up tight.
9. Take car for a drive.
Since doing this, my fuel economy has dramatically changed for the better.
Before: Half tank got 200km city, 310km highway
After: Half tank gets 260km city, 400km+ highway
-----------------------------------------------------------
I always run regular 91 unleaded BP or shell only.. never had any hassles, and I dont really achieve any more km to the tank on premium or 98 octane. My last fuel filter lasted nearly 60,000km and have never really had any carbon build up. My exhaust is dirtier on the outside than the inside. lol

it normaly cost about $30 each injector to get cleaned off the car
plus lab to remove and refit say about 1 hr lab so about $250 but like i said before your car wouldnt need them done yet
only time i would replace them is if they cant be cleaned..

You know the cheapest price i got quoted on mine for a full injector clean was $480. That was from 6 different mechs - the cheapest. Needless to say they are still dirty as i knew they trying to fool my ***. Ive been around long enough lol.
I can get remachined injectors with 12month warranty fitted less than that. The rest ill be happy to attempt myself in the coming few weeks.
edit: just called up an old friend who just got a job with maraton tyres, and he says they have an ultrasonic cleaner there - will do all my injectors and clean fuel rail, TB and do a timing check on it for me for $140.
SOLD!

Step 5 is incorrect. 5. Re-attach intake tubing and start car. The car will run choppy and black smoke will run out exhaust until the cleaner has run through the injectors, this is normal, it disappears quickly and car smoothens up.
The cleaner will not run through the injectors. It will clean your throttle body and some of the inlet manifold. As much as it can contact. Wont do your injectors.

The only way to clean injectors is ultrasonicly. On car cleaning works a bit but not as good as ultrasonic. We ran the on car cleaner twice one the same car then removed and checked the injectors spray patterns and flow rate,we then put them in the ultra sonic bath for 20 mins and saw a 15% average gain. On car may keep them cleaner for longer if done regulary but the only way to really clean them is in an ultrasonic bath.
