Hi all.I have a 12" sub in the back of a wagon. The problem is that it dosen't sound tight, sounds too boomy. I'd like it to sound a bit tighter. Any ideas?

I think this has something to do with your settings on the amp and gain.
im also guessing this is a sealed box?
what kind of adjustments are on the amp?

What sort of box have you got. If its ported, is it built to spec? If not then that may be the problem. If it is then maybe you just need to try sealed.

If its already sealed then maybe try a smaller box.

yeah id say try a smaller box.

my pioneer 305c is meant to have a 30 or 35L box but its in a 40L, still sounds alright most of the time, but reacts a touch slow...

if its ported box its tuned wrong, if its sealed box its to big, if all thats fine check the amp settings, sometimes if you got the bass boost on without re adjusting your gain levels it can sound sloppy, or loose (*smirks) then the next logical thing is you subs Mc****ed, or the settings on your hu are out, how many watts is the sub, and what amp are you running it off, are you under powering it, that could also be the problem

Also the damping factor can play a vital role, look at Eek with his DVC DD, played it at 2ohm and it sounded like rubbish, wired it in series to 8ohm and he loves it.

I'll put my 2c in also:

check that the sub is securely screwed in and sealed against the box to make an air tight seal. No matter if it is ported or sealed box... either way it will sound horrid.

But yes, some ideas of what sort of sub, and in what type of box would be helpful.

It's all Soundstream stuff Xta240.2 Amp
XS-12/2 Sub
and a fusion pre made box apparently the right size for the sub.
The shop that sold it all to me said it will work well in the wagon or have I been taken for a ride?
It's also got Soundstream 6x9s in the rear and 6.5 splits in the front.

crumbs that setup should sound sweet as!

Did he do all the settings for you? If so take it back and ask him to change it as you're not happy with it. Most people wont mind you doing that as it doesnt take that long.
