MITSUBISHI 380 WINS FLEET AWARD

Mitsubishi's 380 sedan has won 'Delivery' magazine's Best Fleet Car award in their Vehicle of the Year Awards 2006.

Managing Editor and Publisher of 'Delivery' magazine, Chris Mullett, said when making the award:

'The 380 is a driver's car that offers best in class performance, driveability and economy at an exceptional price.

Look no further than the 380 as your next fleet replacement or personal choice.'

The award was made in Melbourne with the support of the Australian Fleet Manager's Association as part of a range of fleet awards made by the magazine, and was accepted by Iaen Paul, Mitsubishi's National Manager, Fleet Sales.

Mr Paul said that it was extremely gratifying for the 380 to be recognised with such an award.

'We set out to make 380 a sporty, agile car, and this is very much what Delivery magazine have picked up on. The 380 continues to gain increased market acceptance month by month, and winning an award like this that will be promoted through AFMA will only help support its sales growth,' Mr Paul said.

This was taken directly from MMAL's website.

Good to see that some people are recognizing what the 380 offers and are appluading it for what it does. Hopefully this further creates interest among fleet buyers and we finally see sales head towars (or achieve) respectable levels at a monthly rate.

Finally some much deserved recognition for the 380 from people who do not receive under-the-table monetary hand-outs from certain car companies...:shifty:

i think in the last 6 months that ive worked at a Mitsubishi Dealer, there have been probably 8 380's delivered for private buyers.. most of them have been GT's, an LX, 3 VRX's and a couple of Limited Editions.. but there have been countless amounts gone out that have had governemt plates whacked on them, or they have gone to europcar or other fleet/lease buyers..

this award wont change much in the way that the 380 sells.. the vast majority that have sold have been to fleet buyers anyway.. 95% of 380's that everyone would see on the road would be either a rental car/business vehicle/government car etc..

but good on MMAL, so it should win the best fleet car award.. because, as the article states; it out-handles, out-performs, better built and is more efficient than its rivals..

Also just read that MMAL plan to scale production of the 380 from 75 units per day to 65 by the end of June/early July. Perhaps 'tis another knee-jerk reaction to 380 dropping to 45 sales per day as opposed to 47 in April.

Sigh...:doubt:

While that is sad (as more workers may have to go); but, atleast it shows they are building to demand. Problem is the demand will pick-up and they will probably sell a decent 1400 this month. Atleast the media can report some positive news of "Some MMAL staff back on a 5 day working week" so that their retained number of workers can build the number of 380's needed when this higher demand becomes apparent.

About fleet sales; arrgh... I think 95% is a bit much! I spoke to Agostino's a while back and they think it is an 80/20 split between fleet and household customers (that was in April). Hopefully fleet sales and private sales increase because the public can recognize that businesses (who buy vast numbers of cars) have acknologed that the 380 is superior to the Falcon, Commodore, Camry or any other car of choice (for a fleet buyer).

yeah, 95% was a bit of an exaggeration.. just seems to me that for every 9 rental/government/business owned 380 i see on the road, i only see 1 380 that actually looks like a privatley owned car..

Hi All,

New to this forum and about to relinquish my KE Verada (233 000 trouble free km) for a platinum 380 VRX around the end of the month.

Some of these fleet sales figure may include novated leasing which is how I'm procuring mine. The car will be owned by the lease company but operated privately like any other private vehicle.

Yeah, I agree with that (kind of). Living in SA, I tend to see greater numbers of 380's on the road, but, a considerable amount of "SA Government" 380's hover around. I take it their would be a higher % ratio of privately owned 380's in Adelaide compared to other cities as people may have higher regard for the brand because the car is made locally (and some people might want to save peoples jobs as well:) ).

I just hope that the public (and fleet buyers) increase their interest in the 380 and MMAL hit a new monthly sales figure (above the previously best month of 1,650) by the end of this year.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the novated lease. It is where the company sets an allowance (per annum or for a set period) as to how much each employee is allowed to spend on a company funded car (well something like that anyway). Usually the employee puts some money towards the vehicle and as a result get to drive it for private purposes (i.e. out of work).

Good choice of car too man! Is it a S2 380VRX? If so I know you'll be impressed by it's standard features (you got to love the standard Leather seats, ECM, etc.). One tip, option bluetooth (and parking sensors if you want aswell), it's like not much more then $120 (I think; for the bluetooth, parking sensors around $400) and they are really handy.

I'm sure that if you bargain with the dealer they'll end up throwing them in anyway. lol

The employee has a lot of freedom of choice under a novated lease. Not only can they choose what ever car they want relative to their income, but they can also choose for how long the lease is, whether it be 1, 2, 4 years etc (usually 4).

Repayments are automatically deducted from salary through the company to the leasing firm (eg LeasePlan). In a sense this is similar to having direct debits from your savings account for a gym membership. Obviously the shorter the lease period the larger the deductions/repayments are. The car is then treated like a privately purchased car and the "owner" can modify it as they wish provided it does not have any real impact on resale values (and isn't disallowed by the leasing firm). In other words, NO MODDING!!!

Yep, Series 2 which includes leather as standard and passenger electro seat.
I was really going towards Honda Accord Euro or Subie 3 ltr but found they were just too small in the back if you have to transport teenagers as I do.
Also, Honda's 2.4 didn't impress with the lack of torque at 100k plus which is where I normally do the km.
I only drove the VRX after a friend said I should try one. What impressed me most was the handling and the impeccable drive train. There is no driveline snatch at all with very heavy throttle on/off. This is one really well sorted motor car. I haven't felt the spark of enthusiam like this since a few years ago when I had a Nissan Sylvia turbo.
