Okay in the next few days i will have my AMP showing up here which means I am going to need power in the boot, where is the best place to source the power from in a TP magna? And what gauge wire and fuse should I use?
Secondly, for running the connections from the H/U to the AMP, should I just re-terminate the ends of the current speaker wire with RCA plugs (the back speakers will run of the AMP) or should I run some coaxial through and put the ends on that?
Also, from the AMP to the sub, what type of wire should I use there? Would a heavy gauge speaker wire do it?

That'd be from the battery, you should be using 8ga minimum but try and go 4ga if you can. fuse, you shouldnt need more then 70 or 80A...but the experts will correct me on this
coaxial through? what ya mean by that?
Buuy some high quality RCA's, if you buy cheapo RCA's will jsut be wasting money
And for the Sub to Amp wire, use 14ga Speaker wire, or the biggest speaker wire they have there:D
talk to me on msn, i'll send ya pics of how i put 4g to my boot and my audio setup in my gen1.
however, i wont be on much during the week coming up, going on a little holiday.

According to some reading I will need 4 or 2 gauge wire....

It all depends how much power your amp needs. What is the Watt rating on it? If anything under 200WRMS, then i think 8GA should be ok for your amps. Anything higher and i would suggest going for a 4GA wire.

1000W max, 250 (or so) normal opperation.
I am not exactly sure but I would say 100A max.
Using P=IV, or watts = amps x volts, there for amps = watts / volts, so amps = 1000/11
I used 1000W becuase that is the max and I used 11V because that is about as low as the power may go...

was far as the power cable is concerned, i have always used the largest gauge (thickest) possible just in case you want to add another amp later
and what ever you do dont put RCA plugs on the ends of your current speaker wire, speaker wire from the head unit is high output and the amps RCA input is for low input = not good
just buy 4 -5m of RCA cable something like this http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/44877422080039462740c0a87f9c0688/Product/View/C1774
but also remember while you have your H/U out to install a remote wire as well, this how ever doesn't need to be very thich something like this http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/44877422080039462740c0a87f9c0688/Product/View/W2240
for your amp, without knowing the specs 1000 W max would be PMPO (Peak Max Power Output) which really means nothing, 250WRMS is the important one while the cars running the voltage is ~14.4v mean normal max amps would be something like 17A so a 25 or 30 amp fuse would be more than ample.
i wouldn't be using a 100amp fuse because by the time it blow if something went wrong your amp could already be dead.
hope this helps

well, if you don't plan on upgrading to something vicious, then just get 8 gauge. 4gauge if u want to spend the extra. remember, fuse is to protect your amp shorting and your powr cable. if you get a 8awg power cable, dont go off and get a 250A ANL fuse lol.
i've always thought - do it right the first time. So at least get some half decent RCAs. I've had some terrors with audioline RCA's in a mate's car. There was a dodgey *** connection at the plugs. kept cutting out.
speaker doesn't matter. 16gauge will serve you very well. not unless you're putting like 1500wrms into your sub, then consider upgrading ur speaker wires.

ok.. i install sterios and i would suggest a 4 gage rampage kit wich includes 1x12volt 6m , 1x earth 1.5m, remote on and a set off decent pair of RCA'S leads .. that should do it for now untill you upgrade you stereo any futher.. if you have any probs P.M me
cheers mate

Rampage gear? I will make my own cables.
I have run 150Amp (4 gauge?) wire into the boot for the positive and I will be upgrading the negative battery link soon.
As for the RCA's I will be running Coax into the boot and terminating my own ends, I am sure of that is not sufficient I will buy better quality coax.

umm...you're going to use a coaxial cable? I know they're shielded and all...but have you actually considered a proper pair of stinger twisted pair RCA's? Saves you mucking around with soldering little bits of wire n stuff....if you do want to do ur own connectors, find some sexy stinger plugs, or see if you can get someone to get engineer you some billet copper parts or something lol
I would have upgraded my ground cable first...or at least the same time.
btw, if you are interested in making you own interconnects, i found an AWESOME site...
http://www.venhaus1.com/diysilverinterconnects.html
If you have a coupla thousand dollars and a lot of spare time i reckon you should have a go at making some of your own silver interconnects. I would love to do some myself, but I haven't found the time or the money yet :P
good luck have fun...

A standard, solid metal plug should be fine.
I think you will find most audio cables are just thin coax...
