Hey guys,

i want to get my fuel injectors cleaned. Has anyone here done an ultrasonic cleaning before? Is it worth it or would a bottle of injector cleaners do the trick. The car has done 105,000kms.

Is there a good place in Victoria that does ultrasonic for cheap?

I'm currently going off the philosphy that if i use injector cleaner once between every service, i wont need to get them done. Some say its a waste of money, some say it really helps. I've never had it done so i couldn't tell you if it made any difference, but yeh, i'm sticking to my plan and seems to be ok for now. Some people have engines with 300k plus kms and have never had it done without any trouble.

Which injector cleaners would you recommend. Its a VRX and has done 105,000kms.

**EDIT:

Just spoke to Mitsubishi and got quoted $79 for a fuel filter change (parts and labour). The filter by itself is about $49.50.

As for the injectors, the guy told me they use Wynns as their cleaning agent -$150. They don't remove the injectors or anything but he also confirmed that its not the add on the fuel tank one. Removing the injectors will be more expensive. He recommends cleaning injectors evry 30,000kms. Hmmm

Any thoughts?

I just use wynns, seems to work ok.
Fuel filter if you do it yourself $10-20. If you get a mechanic anywhere from $100, the labour involved is pretty big (well on my TR it was anyway).

Nah, I buy Ryco and its only like $25-30 retail. Same as used in Ford 6cyl I think.

Filter sits by the fuel tank.

Replace by depressuring the fuel system
(run engine with fuel pump disconnected until it dies)
then just unbolt & unclip the filter, install new one.

Unbolting the fiilter is tricky, you need 2 spanners. Its still got me beat.

They squirt a spraycan thru the fuel rail, I think somebody said.

But for $150... I'd prefer to save up and do the proper off-the-car-ultrasonic job.

I suspect that you will get much better results with an off car full clean and balance.

I had a KS at approx 80,000 kms that was getting rougher and rougher.
I had a full off car ultrasonic clean and check done.

I was able to see the injector flow rates before cleaning, there was almost 25% difference between the best and worst, NONE of them were actually flowing to spec!!

After, again, I was able to see the results in the testing machine.
By eye you could not see any difference between the delivery volumes.

Back in the car, Like a new engine, smooth as. Fuel consumption improved, from memory about 2l /100!

Well worth it.

Do it and tell everyone about the effect.
