if you want to keep it looking stock and all they are 6" front and back

a quick call to my local strathfield (which i go to far to much:P )

but if you want something a bit better and dont mind it, i have boxed 6x9s on my parcel shelf which are pretty good and have decent sound for the price - $80 for the pair with boxes from strathfield

all depends why your upgrading.

Mate they're 6x9's in the parcel shelf. 6 or 6.5 inch up front, could even fit 5 1/4 but why would you bother lol.

*edit* the stock speaker in the front is 6 1/2" but you can mount 6" perfectly fine. 5 1/4 inch would be pushing it but doable.

a tj is different to a tn... lol

from my experiance, if you get 6.5's for the front, they wil take you around 8 mins to mount, however around 3 hours to remove the first door insert. The second speaker should only take you about 10 mins all up lol

Just some advice, repco and the other car places are starting big sales on the long weekend i believe, if you wait you could pick up a better deal?
As for power of the speakers, you can get 1 million watt, wont make a difference :).

strathfield...ah wen will others learn that name means nothing more than buy from them at a cheap price, but do not ask advice and definitely, weeeeeeeeeell (dr cox elongating of a vowel) and truely dont get them to install something, not if u want workmanship neway. hell if u want someone that learnt stereo installs just by playing with lego then by all means get them to install something!

*please do not, ever, in ur whole existence, use strathfield for an install. if u do i will have to rip out the commonsense part of ur brain and use it as a tea cosy*

that is all :D

Strathfield? :belt: ...sigh.

In my ignorant younger days, got Strathfield to install rear 6-inchers into my TN wagon.
This was like 15+ yrs ago, TN was a 'new' current model vehicle then.

They:-

1) hacked out the fake-o grilles in the cargo area's sides... ok.

2) they bolted the speakers to the plastic... vibe city, but still ok.

3) when I got into the car again and turned the HU on... WHAT THE?!?

Those idiots had wired the rear speakers to L, front speakers to R...!!!

My soundstage is like I'm sitting sideways at a concert.

I got the car and myself outta there pronto, sound was so BAD I drove home in silence.

Spent 3 hrs that night rewiring everything!!!

(luckily they made it easy by not solder anything, just twisted wire + 'leccy tape)

I solder EVERYTHING.

6" are a tad small for the factory fit in a TJ but the 6.5" fit straight in. Less hassle more speaker.

Ok having a TE and TJ...

Both have stock 6inch speakers up front. You can however fit 6.5inch speakers in the factory plastic mounts if you make new holes. I used to run 2way Fusion 6.5inches and now run 6inch splits which used the factory holes ( until I made MDF baffles... 18mm ones!!! )

6x9's rule the factory holes up the rear. :D

Yes most places like autobarn, strathfield hire 15/16 year olds that do your install and they dont give a toss about your car, they just want to get the job done as quickly as possible. Not all stores are like this, but the ones i have dealt with are. I even know of one autobarn store that installed car audio, then the next night stole it all back. It was never proven, but it couldn't have been anyone else.

Yes, they are only good for purchasing on the cheap!...And as for installs, I'm sure they have never owned, or never been shown how to operate a soldering iron. And using a soldering iron must be against their very own OH&S policy.

I remember when I got my stereo fitted by them in 94, (didn't know how to fit them myself then) and a couple of months later, A friend helped me install a pre amped E.Q to the stereo, and we had found that they must of ran out of electrical tape that day, because we found that they used Scotch tape instead (sticky tape). After that, I made myself learn how to install h/u's and amps etc, so I know that the job is going to get done right...

get 6.5" for fronts... they fit better. 6" just screw into the plastic. There is barely room for them to screw into the plastic. originals were 6.5".

I have Undone too many " Professional Installs" from Several Car part Stores..
From Headunits being bridged to Amplifiers running with no Fusible links and off 12Volt Supply..

TE- 380 is 6.5 inch.. You need to Watch Magnet Depth.
Rears 6x8.7 inch 6x9's are the Closest Match... Same applies.. Watch the Magnet Depth..

Too Deep and You will hit the Windows i nthe Front and Need a Spacer, Too Deep on the rear shelf and the Boot Struts will hit the Magnets

i got them to install an electric aerial mast, what should have been bout a 10min job (i found out later) required me to go back to them like 2 or 3 times, and found out later they still left some of the old wire in the car. so to them i was roughly a $100 customer, but they lost out on someone who was gonna upgrade their stereo soon, which is looking at being $2000 including install costs.

once bitten, never again...but i would go there to get cheap sh*t, just not that 1 store. i have principles :D

Hey dude, normally your stock speakers range from 15w to 40w if you want advise on brands i would strongly suggest alpine.. i know its a bit to pricey but they are the bomb.. i would try car sterio or audio specialist and they should give you some advise on what to do..
if you have any probs e-mail me and i will try to sort something out for you..

cheers mate

With the helpful folk of AMC and sometimes CAA at hand, i dont see why you cant try to install these yourself, especially if its just speakers, would be a good learning curve.

Repco dont have much in the way of speakers, Magnat will vouch for the blaunkputs as being pretty good though. Im pretty sure me, magnat, M for D-dog and mitsi will vouch for the JBL 6*9s as being pretty darn good for a little over $130 brand new

dont rush in to buy kenwood or pioneer speakers without listening to them first, and then something else after. They normally arnt the best when it comes to speakers. The sony explode 6x9's are good as a cheap 6x9, i think wow sight and sound have them for about $50 a pair atm...

Mr İharisma
15-06-2006, 07:25 AM
Installing the front and rear speakers are easy. Front door has 3 screws, take them out and pull the cover off the clips.

Back you take the grills off and take the 6x9's out. You will need an L shaped screw driver though.

What is your budget dude because you may be able to afford something better sounding then what you can get from JB and strathfield.

The mid-bass is incredible, but the tweeters, while pretty decent, dont really sound as good as my old pioneers. But the midbass more than makes up for that, and when i get splits in the front it wont even matter :D.

are your 6x9's connected to an amp yet?
my settings may be wrong but i reckon the tweets are quite nice on them, i dont have much midbass (still got alot of tweaking to be done) as i find what the subs are doing are doing it quite nicely

Yeh 6x9's are connected to an amp, running on LPF at about 150hz. lol oh thats right last you saw my sounds system consisted of 6x9's in boxes on the back seat haha!
Yeh it's all in now and sweet. Yeh the tweeters sound abit muddy i reckon, might be my amp though. I'm going to upgrade my amp soon, just dunno what to.

Dont Buy Sound 4 or Sound Force or Any Crud like that . No Better then Kenwood..

Go for a Set of 2-way 6x9's over a 3-way and Save money..

Spend more money on your Front Speakers and Get decent Quality.
Look at VDO, Kicker,Blaupunkt and Pioneer over Kenwood or Sony..

Kenwood i can understand, but whats with the sony bashing? Sure i haven't heard any of their latest stuff, but i know a few mates who have the xplod stuff from 2-3 years back, hu 6.5" and 6x9's and for a non-amped system, goes pretty damn good.

*EDIT*
I know sony subs are pieces of shat though lol.
