View Full Version : $25 Grille Mod
Canadian

I was waiting and waiting for a letterbox grille to pop up so i could purchase it, but after 3 months of waiting i gave up
so i decided to make my own mesh grille.
$25 from Supercheap Auto got me a sheet of mesh, but i barely used half. Simply outlined the shape of my grille with a
marker and cut it out, and wedged it between the outer chrome bit and the inner grille bit.

looks good, but has it caused any air turbulance to the radiator and the snorkel (thats to assume its all stock under the bonnet)?

Took about, ide say to go out and purchase the mesh, go back home and cut it out and install, around 2 hours, couldve done it alot quicker, just didn't wanna cut a link in the mesh in the wrong place and have a visible hole in the grill!
looks good, but has it caused any air turbulance to the radiator and the snorkel (thats to assume its all stock under the bonnet)?
yeah i was worried bout the same thing, so far nothing wrong with the temperature, pretty sure it should be all good... i hope :P

haha nup didn't run over him, he had a grass seed in a needle shape lodged up between his toes going into his foot, kinda complicated and hard to explain, so he had surgery, he's all good now! i got a spare tyre leaning against the wall so my bumper hits that if i go to far, but iv never hit the stairs, that would suck so much!
He is quite the poser though haha look at this pic, looks like he has so much pride gaurding he house!!! awww funny

I was trying to find a verada (wanted xi but would have settled for ei) but the cheapest one i found was 11k and when i offered them 8k (still 3 k more than what you paid) i got laughed at.

$5000 3rd gen rada......hell id never say no!
back on the topic....grille looks unreal mate! fantstic job.
what did u use to secure the mesh in?
Nice wheels too, the speedy graphites. I've been wanting one of those but don't have the
money. Plus, I have a minimum requirement of 95 load rated tyres. Not too many tyres for
17" or 18" have size to match. Did find a Falken ZIEX ZE-512 that came in 235/50 R17.
What sizes are your wheels and tyres?

Yeah Beau Waters who plays for the eagles was his old car, he got a company car so wanted to get rid of that, 167k on it, had a mechanic to check it out, all is well, he had it advertised for 8k, i only had $5000 and just wanted to see what they looked like and if i shold save up for it
anywho after the mechanic sed it was all good Mr Waters was like so do u want it and i sed i only got 5k and just wanted a look and he sed 5k was fine so i took it!
I got 18" Speedy Graphites with 235/45/R18 rubber
I simply wedged the mesh between the two grill pieces, completely secure, worked out well!

will give this a crack on the weekend.....
2 questions........should i leave a little extra bit on each corner to fold back and screw behind the mesh to guarantee security and secondly, how to i get this grille out???? its a KE so similar to you grille....
looks sweet, was thinking of getting a KH grille, but not for $190 or so from Mitsu. This looks better anyways......
cheers for the idea :D

bending it back should do it, but i had a little overlay so i used some silicon stuff to make sure it stuck

I basically outlined the shape with a permanent marker and cut just outside of it, so there was a bit of overlay, then just screwed the chrome bit (outer bit) back on the inner bit and all worked out well!
Yeah i didn't want to pay that much aswell and the odds of a KH grille poppin out second hand are quite low!
To remove the grill there are i think 5 weird clip things behind it, pop the hood and look behind the grille, mine have grey clips that clip into black clips, u just get a screwdriver or pen, anything that u can prod the grey clip with and push it in and it should click out of place. Yours could be different but i reckon they should be the same
