So you want a full replacement ECU for a 4cyl magna  .
As far as full replacement computers go, the Haltech E6X is a popular choice.
It really comes down to what you plan on doing with the car. Most Piggyback style ECU's on the market will handle the vast majority of mods that you could possibly want to do to any sort of magna.

Haltech E6X will be the goer for you. They're highly regarded, cheap and made in Aus with plenty of tuners out there.

E6X is a full replacement ECU, so yeah..... it stands alone. There are a couple of members here now who have had these fitted to magna's, but mostly 3rd gens (no knock sensor).
Otherwise, check out www.haltech.com.au for more info on the E6X, or give them a call. As KB said, they are Aussie, and will no doubt be able to answer all your questions and more with one phone call.

It'll work with a knock sensor no dramas.

Haltech E6X pnp from RPW. RPW is the only distrabutor for the Haltech Plug and Play Units for Mitsubishis. Plug it in, solder a couple of extra wires (less than 10) and mount some sensors, and your set. They even provide you witha base map to get her started!

No - E6X Standalone.
Plug and Play meaning unplug your stock ecu. Plug in the Haltech.
If you can show me a PLUG AND PLAY E6X from Bob Romano, i will eat my hat :doubt:

eventually i plan to turbo. so a stand alone is a must. i do want it to run all the stock sensors and the like for temp. i plan on doing things slowely for the turbo. ie new fuel pump fuel regulator, ecu, ingnition system. etc

Actually it's not. There are plenty of piggyback ECU options which will support a street tuned turbo application. You would know that if you'd properly researched your turbo project.

If you say so. I was under the impression you could get the mitsubishi loom straight from Haltech.
Are you confusing the Lancer setup with the Magna? The E6X can't drive the Magna's ignition module for a start, so there's going to be a lot more involved than just 10 wires and a MAP sensor.

yes i know that a piggy back could be used for the turbo but all it would control is idle speed and knock sensor. the rest would be handled by the new ecu. this means that the two computers would be trying to do different things. ie if you ideling it could try and raise the idle from the old ecu but the new one thinks the revs could stay where they are. for only a minimal extra the stand alone means that two separate computers are doing one job.
