Just need some clarification regarding the factory alarm. I have a 2001 TJ VRX Ltd Ed and although it says it has a factory alarm i'm not 100% sure.

When i lock the doors with the remote the alarm should be activated right. how do i test if it is? When i press the panic button, the horn starts beeping. That's the panic alarm but it does not tell me if it is working.

Should it go off if:

1. Doors are open with the keys

2. Boot is opened with keys.

3. If someone stays inside and opens the door??

Firstly, I believe all TJ's came with standard alarm.

When you have locked the car, a green security icon should appear on the dash cluster for 30 secs. This means the car is now armed.

There should also be a factory sticker on your back passenger window stating that the car has an alarm. However, this may have been removed if you had your windows tinted.

To test it, jump in your car and lock it. Either try and open a door or put the key in the ignition. If the horn starts blaring, your car has an alarm.:D

I'm not sure whether the TJ's have bonnet sensors, but it should go off if someone was to try and break in through the boot or doors.

opening the bonnet should set it off too - well it does in my TJ s2 exec.
I normally leave the windows down in summer at home and just reach in thru the window and pop the bonnet to check stuff - then its a mad panic to find the keys and shut it down!

Yes all TH/TJs have for factory immobiliser & alarm, key is coded.

Opening boot, doors or bonnet will sound the alarm - that's the sensors.

If someone smashes a window and doesn't open any door, alarm does nothing.

If I have locked my car whilst I'm inside it and place the key in the ignition, the alarm sounds. The only way to disable it from there is by pressing the unlock button on the remote.

You can also disable alarm from unlocking the door with a key.

nah, my KJ is factory stock. Rear door sticker says Radio is Security coded. :)

My KJ is factory stock also - sticker on rear door window says:

Vehicle Is Fitted With Immobilisation, Alarm And Security Coded Radio - this is STANDARD for ALL TJ/KJ and onwards vehicles (cant be certain about previous models) - just cause your sticker may not be there it doesnt mean a thing - ohh, and my KJ was built in the first month of TJ/KJ range manufacture

yes Bill, you were quite right - unfortunately there are too many people on this forum who will jump in with thier own version of things without truly knowing the facts - I can guarantee ALL TJ/KJ's came with factory immobilisation, alarm, and the pathetic coded radio.......still havnt figured why manufacturers bother with coded radio's - you'd have to be pretty desperate/pathetic to steal a factory stereo.....unless it is something along the lines of the Ralliarts Eclipse steroe's......

Especially when the dealer writes the radio's security code onto the car manual... :badgrin:

ye to test it jus turn on the alarm and open the bonnet or the door from the inside.

but going off topic for a sec i have a aftermarket alarm on my TH exec and when i arm my car with the aftermarket alarm all is good but my stock one arms as well and when i disarm my aftermarket disamrs but the factory one dosnt and it thinks that its being broken into so it starts to beep like crazy :confused: so i have 2 alarms (factory and aftermarket) how do i disconnect my factory one so only the aftermarket one is workin?
