Brake pads on TJ was so easy, they're all PBR and the
only oddity available is twin-pot for Ralliart & AWD.
But with TE-TH... according to
http://catalogue.bendix.com.au/default.aspx
we've got
Akebono
Sumitomo
PBR
Which came on what model, in what sequence?

Very interesting question.
What their guide says doesnt seem to marry up with what i have on my AWD. I rang Mitsubishi direct to get model numbers and i have already fitted some bendix pads to my AWD which are different to what their guide says.
Interesting.
I fitted Bendix 1223 to the front which is what they say is right but on the rear i have fitted DB 1238 when they say its ment to be 1231 and they seem to of fitted ok which is interesting.
Will have to ring them because i am currently running those crappy Bendix Advance because i couldnt get the Ultimates in the rear and i didnt want to mix ultimates and advance but now they might offer hopefully Ultimates on the rear with the new part number so therefor i can run ultimates all round and get rid of the Advance all round.

I bought some brake pads online last week which were for the TE-TH because I thought all base 3rd gens shared the same brakes.
But now have a 1 in 3 chance that they will fit. Hopefully they are the PBR size.:doubt:

If they're 1203/1024 and you can't use 'em, lemme know. :P
Far as I can tell... for the FWDs:-
PBR uses front 1203, rear 1204
Akebono & Sumitomo front 1223
Akebono rear 1238
Sumitomo rear 1239
Someone mentioned sedans & wagons are different again... but can't tell.

oh yea, is COLOUR of brake pad backings good way of ID'ing them?
Finally got around to giving my KJ's wheels etc a good scrub last night,
pad backing colour can now be seen. Thought they were all 'black' before.
Got blues ("Gulf" blue) in the front, greens ("BP" green) at the rear.
Acquired this car at 40,000kms 3yo so I'd be thinking they were the factory fitment?
Would be unlikely to be replacements as imho be hard to kill 'em before 40,000;
I've done 17,000 more and the pads haven't worn all that much more since then.

I haven't checked my owners manual, but it may mention the brake details in there?
I managed to buy the Akebono 1223 and Sumitomo 1239's.lol Damn....I will have to put them back on ebay and/or on here.
But after searching ebay for the PBR 1203 & 1204, I managed to get a front pair of new Ferodo Excels for $30 delivered and the correct rear set for $24 del.:)

Owners Manual doesn't specify model.
Workshop manuals (I have Haynes AND Gregorys) don't either.

you scum, I was watching that auction... looks like somebody's leftovers?

The seller said they were new so he may have done what I did and had accidently bought the wrong brake pads. I just hope they stop ok, last a long time and don't dust badly.

All looks a little dodgy to me.
Has anyone ever come accross any other pad than the 1203 and 1204 in any FWD TE/KE-TW/KW other than ralliart? I have never seen or heard of one. I dont know where Bendix are getting these specs from.
You would definately know if you had one of the others not being the PBR which i'm sure is what all 3rd gen magna/verada's have because those other brands being the Sumitomo and Akebono run the pads which are for the twin piston setup in the front.
I'm fairly sure the AWD and Ralliart's even run a PBR setup.

Ring your local ABS shop and they will supply you with the right ones. Lucas are great but a bit on the dusty side. Awsome stoppage

The factory fronts are blue. Not sure about the rears. The good thing about the factory pads is that they are very long lasting.

Do the earlier Veradas have double pistons?
Thought they were standard singles but was reading the Bosch brakepad catalog
at Supercheap, think it says the smaller 1223/1224s go into the early KE/KFs?

My KJ's up to 56000km and have about 3-4mm left all round.
Green rears dust up more than the front wheels though - wierd!
Yeah they last pretty long but I think I want a bit more bite for next pads.
Last few weeks have been switching between the KJ and TH... TH definitely won't have
factory standard brakes 'cos they're fantastically powerful (& hairline trigger-ish)
whereas the KJ takes about 2" of pedal travel to reach lockup.
(A few "whoooaaa!" experiences every time switching cars... )
Both cars needing pads soon too. $$$
Gunna have to pull a few wheels off to doublecheck exact pad shape methink.

Yeah some of the 2nd Gen's had twin pistons on them. I know my old KS Wagon had twins on the front and bigger rears.
Not sure if the KR's had twins or not.
